A Councilor in Enugu State has been suspended for allegedly embezzling funds provided for purchase of relief items for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).
Moving a motion for the suspension, the Majority Leader of the House and member representing Neke Ward Two, Mr Nnabuike Ugwu expressed worry that the N1.1million naira palliative fund released to IDPs in Umualor Community has not gotten to them months after the disbursement, and called for proper investigation.
Ugwu also accused Mr Maxwell Aluagbo of disclosing issues discussed by the legislators in a close door meeting to outsiders which he said attracts indefinite suspension, citing their House Rule number 3 “e” of the Isi-uzo Legislative Council to support their claim.
Seconding the motion, Councilor representing Ehamufu- Ward One, Mr John Nwodo frowned at the alleged misconduct of Mr Aluagbo noting that they were elected to serve the people and not to contribute to their difficult situation.
Pronouncing the suspension, the Leader of the Isi-uzo Legislative Council,Mr Renus Anene Nnaji described the allegations leveled against the embattled Councilor as unfortunate saying they will continue to ensure that the people got the desired democracy dividends due to them.
He therefore constituted a 3 -man Committee to investigate the allegations and report back to the house in no distant time insisting that transparency and accountability must remain their watch words.
Members of the Committee are; Chidozie Ogbu, Chairman; Mr Emma Nnamani, Secretary and Mr Cyril Olinya, Member.
The Councilors further commended the development stride of the Isi-uzo Council Chairman, Mr Obiora Obeagu and pledged their continued support to his administration as well as that of Governor Peter Mbah at the State level.
