
The build up to the February Local Government elections have continued to raise dusts across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
The idea of consensus Candidates especially for the Chairmanship position has become a vexed issue in some areas where the stakeholders have failed to agree.
While that of UZO-UWANI, UDENU, and Igboeze North have long been resolved and sealed with the incumbents choesn for a second term some areas are yet to conclude.
Meanwhile, Isi-uzo LGA has resolved that the incumbent will not be returning just as Enugu East and Anninri who have completed there second tenures.
Enugu North, Igboeze South, Awgu, Ezeagu are all on their way for a second tenure EverydayNews can authoritatively report.
For Awgu, Hon Pedro Nwankwo will be going for a second tenure in line with the zoning arrangement in the Council Area.
In Awgu the position rotates between the North and South political divides.
A flashback shows that late Chukwuobasi did two tenure and he hailed from the South.
He was succeeded by Hon Uche Anioke from the North who also did his two tenure in line with existing zoning system.
Hon Nze Nnanna, South had a straight four years just as Hon Stanley Okeke, North whose tenure was also not tampered with.
Today it’s the turn of the South and the incumbent Hon Pedro Nwankwo has just concluded his first tenure and is naturally going for his second tenure. Stakeholders have given the nod in line with zoning.
EverydayNews reports that the party hiearachy has also considered the role of the incumbent Chairman in the larger politics of Enugu State.
His total loyalty to the Government of the day has also placed him above any other aspirants as he takes a bow for a second tenure.
