Stakeholders from Enugu West Senatorial District have fixed April 18, 2026, for a mass rally in support of Governor Peter Mbah’s second term bid.
The group made the announcement during a press briefing held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Charles Egunbe, flanked by former senator Ban Collins Ndu and Dr. Luck Mgbo, said the rally would serve as a vote of confidence in the governor, citing what he described as “unprecedented infrastructural development” within two years in office.
He noted that in Enugu State, it had become a tradition for citizens to demand continuity when a governor is performing creditably.
Egunbe explained that the rally would bring together all stakeholders and indigenes of Enugu West, irrespective of political affiliations, to collectively endorse the governor.
“When we speak of Enugu West, we are not talking about party lines—APC, PDP, or others—but all our people coming together to support a leader who has shown capacity and vision,” he said.
He described Mbah as a purposeful and prepared leader, stressing that his administration’s “disruptive governance” agenda had translated into tangible development across key sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, transportation, and the economy.
Highlighting the education sector, Egunbe pointed to the Smart Green Schools initiative, noting that it was designed to equip children with globally competitive skills comparable to their counterparts in advanced countries.
On economic development, he said ongoing improvements in the aviation sector would soon enable residents to access direct international flights, reducing travel stress and costs while boosting economic activities.
He further emphasized that the governor had demonstrated inclusiveness and statewide impact within a short period, making him deserving of a second term.
Egunbe also reaffirmed the state’s zoning arrangement among the East, West, and North senatorial zones, noting that it remained critical for equity, balance, and political stability.
He added that the rally would not only serve as an endorsement but also signal the stakeholders’ readiness to mobilize support for the governor’s re-election.
