It was a historic. It was remarkable. And the people could not help but applaud as Governor Peter Mbah flagged off multiple developmental projects at Ugwuomu Nike.
It was a day HRH Igwe Mike Ogbuchi, Traditional ruler of Mburuawuri Nike Community led his people of ugwuomu to welcome the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for the ground breaking event.
The projects include construction of the 1.74km Ugwuomu Smart School Road project and the commissioning of two 500KVA transformers in the Akpuoga and Nchatancha Nike communities.
The initiative, termed “A New Beginning,” has been described as an eloquent commitment to infrastructural development and improved service delivery by the government.
Speaking at the occasion Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Okey Ogbodo expressed admiration for Ugwuomu.
He noted that, “this is the only community currently hosting a smart school, a Type 2 primary healthcare center, and a major road project.
“This is a blessed community.”
He congratulated Engr. Dan Anike for being the first local government chairman to initiate a major project so soon after taking office.
In his speech the Enugu East Local Government Chairman, Engr. Beloved Dan Obi Anike emphasized the administration’s commitment to people oriented development.
“Building people builds community. That is why this smart school is crucial to Governor Mbah,” he said.
He urged the residents of Ugwuomu to cooperate with the administration and its developmental agenda, noting that the smart school initiative aims to establish one school per ward across Enugu State – a vision dear to the governor’s heart.
Anike noted that the road infrastructure project, which aligns with the governor’s plan to construct over 10,000 kilometers of roads across the state, will not only serve existing communities but also open access to future developments.
In addition, he disclosed that the Governor has mandated the linking of schools to marketplaces and other key institutions as part of his integrated development strategy.
Communities mapped for inclusion in the rural linkage project include Ugwuomu, Ugwogo, Emene, Eko, Nkwubor, and Amorji.
The vision, according to state authorities, is to ensure that children in Enugu receive quality education that competes globally.
Dr. Felix Nnamani, the Commissioner for Water Resources and an indigene of the community, lauded the governor for taking over the completion of the Ugwuomu road project initiated by Engr. Anike.
He also highlighted other critical developments in the area, such as the agricultural processing factory and the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiative, under which every healthcare center in the state will receive a dedicated borehole.
“The Smart Green School here in Ugwuomu is among the first completed in the state, a testament to the governor’s commitment to global educational standards,” Nnamani added.
He also reiterated the governor’s stance against having any “brown street” in Enugu, emphasizing the vision to make every community livable and prosperous.
The President-General of Ugwuomu, Chief Anayochukwu Jude, expressed deep appreciation to the governor and particularly to Dr. Nnamani, who served as PG before his appointment as commissioner.
He noted that it is the first time an indigene of Ugwuomu is serving in the state cabinet and pledged his support for the governor’s re-election in 2027.
Community leaders, including Vice Woman Leader Maria Eke and several elder statesmen, commended the governor’s vision and the LG chairman’s swift actions.
They highlighted that the new road linking Orie Emene, Ugwuomu, and Ako will open up vital trade and economic opportunities.
Engr. Dan Anike also commissioned 500kVA transformers in the Nchatancha and Akpoga communities on the same day.
The PG of Nchatancha Nike, Hon. Chief Okoh Michael Okoye, thanked the chairman for fulfilling his promise and improving electricity access in the area.
This historic day in Ugwuomu reflects a broader momentum building in Enugu State — one driven by infrastructure, education, and inclusive community development.
