One of the State Assembly aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mr Segun Omoyofunmi, on Wednesday escaped an assassination attempt.
Mr Segun popularly known as IBB was shot along Ajagba-Akotogbo road in Irele Local government of the state while returning from a consultation meeting with party delegates ahead of today’s primary election.
IBB, who is loved by youths across Irele Local Government is one of the leading aspirants contesting for the ticket of the ruling APC for Irele State Constituency of Ondo State House of Assembly ahead of the 2023 general election next year.
The source said; “ IBB is being victimized because he enjoys the support of all the delegates, the youths and women of Irele Local Government because of different intervention programmes our people are enjoying through him. Even members of the opposition party are ready to elect him if he clinches the party’s ticket,” the source added.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr Segun’s whereabout was unknown.
The source further stressed that “Segun is being trailed because of his massive followers who are clamouring for free and fair primary election against the imposition of candidate by anyone.”
Some youths of the ruling APC are planning to stage a peaceful protest this morning at Irele before the commencement of the primary against any form of imposition of candidates, Starnews Nigeria can report.
