Enugu: Why I returned to PDP -Former LP Guber Candidate – Edoga

The Labour Party has faced a significant setback in Enugu State, with its governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, abandoning the party to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Edeoga, who finished a close second in the 2023 election, arrived at the PDP’s office at 11:50 am, accompanied by a large contingent of supporters from across the state.

Dr. Martins Chukwunweike welcomed Edeoga at the party office, stating, “Today is a momentous occasion for the party, and we thank God and our governor for sparing no effort to reconcile all members back to the fold.”

He emphasised that while there is much work ahead, Edeoga’s return is significant, asserting, “He (Edeoga) has pledged his loyalty to the party and will do everything in his power to ensure victory for the PDP in the upcoming election.”

Dr. Chukwunweike expressed gratitude to all party members, particularly those from Isi-Uzo who accompanied Edeoga, stressing that the PDP remains the sole viable platform in the state and insisting that what occurred in 2023 must not repeat itself.

In his speech, Edeoga expressed his happiness at the turnout, extending thanks to the Enugu State governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, whom he said deserves praise.

He noted, “What is happening here is unprecedented in the history of Enugu State and will mark a paradigm shift in our state’s narrative.”

Edeoga acknowledged the party leadership for their efforts in making the day possible, saying, “It may seem small, but it required considerable manoeuvring and consultations for me to be here today. I am grateful for their efforts, and I appreciate the leaders of the PDP in my local government and the council chairman for facilitating this.

“I renew my commitment to the people to ensure that the PDP becomes a winning force in the state once again. My gratitude goes to the party chairman, who undertook all the groundwork, and to our leader, Governor Mbah.”

Edeoga was joined by his brothers, leaders of the Labour Party in Isi-Uzo, and several candidates from the recent election.
