A faction of the All progressive congress (APC) in Enugu state have stormed the national secretariat of the party calling for the immediate sack of the state chapter chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah.
Spokesperson of the group, Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, in a petition to the Sen Abdullahi Adamu-led national working committee (NWC) justified the call saying it was aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2023 poll.
The group comprising the former Senate President Ken Nnamani, and Mr. Geofrey Onyeama Minister of Foreign Affairs, urged the Adamu-led NWC to immediately save the party in Enugu state from total collapse by removing Agballah from office and in his place put a Caretaker Chairman who should be someone not within the present State Executive Committee.
But the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah has described those seeking his removal as agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, who are also struggling to hijack the party’s campaign money during the 2023 general elections.
Reacting to the petition against him Agballah said that the so called stakeholders are known electoral failures as they always lose their polling booths to PDP during general elections.
He said, for some “Abuja politicians” to the be calling for the removal of an elected state executive committee few months to a general election, it’s enough evidence to prove that these so called eminent party leaders don’t mean well for the party and, indeed, have never won their polling booths in the state in all the previous elections.
Agballah also posited that the party men, are only after APC campaign money, and want to ignite crisis so that they will demand that the money be divided into two parts so that they will pocket the money and go home with the party losing in their polling booths like they did in 2015 and 2019.
Agballah noted that prior to his assumption of office as the State Chairman, and nomination of Chief Uche Nnaji as governorship candidate of the party in the state, nobody had ever visited or campaigned in any of the 260 wards of the state.
He said, “These ’eminent personalities’ and public office holders are mostly unknown in their various wards and do not participate in any APC activity in their various wards. Little wonder none of them won their respective polling booths in 2015 and 2019!
“If they did so, we challenge them to present the result sheet to the press. We also challenge them to present evidence of their attendance in any meeting of their wards since Oct 2021 when Hon Agballah was elected State Chairman and when he insisted every stakeholder and takeholders should attend ward and LG A meetings.
“Every election year they create crisis. They did it to former state Chairman, Ben Nwoye few months to 2015 election and repeated it in 2019 election. These are comprador PDP in the night APC in the morning members.”
