Both Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and former Deputy President of the Senate Chief Ike Ekweremadu have been best of friends and politcial allies..

They were together at the National Assembly (Reps and Senate respectively) at the same period.

They have great respect for each other and have managed whatever differences maturely.

In the build up to the 2015 Election, Ike Ekweremadu who was in control of the People Democratic Party structure played significant role in Ugwuanyi’s emergence.

Ekweremadu in his power tussle with then governor Sullivan Chime hijacked the party structure in the State.

The resignation of the party Chairman Engr Vita Abba paved the way for Ekweremadu to have control of the party.

The controversial ward Congress which Sullivan contested was upheld in court, handing Ekweremadu the steering, as the ward Congress formed the foundation for the emergence of other delegates for the party primary.

This has been described as the reason Senator Ayogu Eze, went all the way to the Supreme Court having been part of the Ekweremadu camp that should had the authentic list for the primary.

With Ekweremadu on the driving wheels Ugwuanyi wouldn’t have emerged PDP guber Candidate without his nod.

Probably because of this, many still believe there is a a pact between the Governor and Senator Ekweremadu.

This fear continues to grow by the day as the signs keep pointing towards Ekweremadu’s interest in the guber position.

Nobody has been bold to voice this out within the PDP family in Enugu yet it is being discussed on a daily basis.

Ugwuanyi’s silence has not also helped matters as the speculations continue to gain ground.

However, a reliable source told EverydayNewsngr.net that Ekweremadu had confirmed that there was no pact with Ugwuanyi over the 2023 guber position.

The former Deputy President of the Senate was also quoted as saying that Ugwuanyi kept to their agreement.

Amongst other things, Ugwuanyi virtually handed over the affairs of Enugu West Zone to Ekweremadu in his first tenure as part of compensation.

All these were believe to have happened during Ugwuanyi’s first four years.

EverydayNews findings reveal that Ugwuanyi has no pact with any politician. We also have strong indications that PDP will zone the guber position to Enugu East zone.

The only issue appear to be whether it is going to Isi-uzo LGA or the other parts of the Zone.

However, majority opinion does not favour Isi-uzo as they are seen as the last born in Enugu East and therefore cannot take first before others.

An Nkanu Candidate from Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Enugu North appears more acceptable and capable of ensuring less conflicts and create room for a peaceful and smooth transition.
