    Maduka University

The Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Pastor Beloved Dan Obinna Anike, has congratulated members of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) across Nike and Emene deaneries on the occasion of the 2026 Mothering Sunday, describing women as the backbone of society and drivers of community development.
In a goodwill message addressed to the women, Anike commended their invaluable contributions to family life, spiritual growth, and economic advancement, noting that Mothering Sunday is not only a celebration but also a recognition of the sacred role women play as nurturers and preservers of values.
“Across generations, mothers have remained the quiet force behind the stability and progress of our society,” he said. “In the social sphere, you raise families and build communities; in the spiritual realm, you serve as pillars of faith; and in the economic space, you continue to demonstrate resilience and enterprise.”
The council boss reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to women empowerment, emphasizing that the strength of any society is rooted in the strength of its women. He disclosed that the local government has developed a Family Economic Empowerment Strategy designed to place women at the center of development initiatives.
According to him, the strategy includes the Women Cooperative Revolving Scheme, aimed at providing financial access and structured support for women-led businesses, as well as a long-term investment in girl-child education with a projected ₦3 billion commitment over the next decade.
Anike also highlighted recent interventions by his administration, including the distribution of 10,000 wrappers to women and 10,000 bags of rice to households during the Yuletide season, describing them as preliminary steps toward broader empowerment programmes.
He further announced plans to officially launch and flag off a dedicated empowerment fund on June 16, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen support for women across the local government.
The chairman called for sustained collaboration with organizations such as the Catholic Women Organization, stressing that partnerships with faith-based and community groups would help drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve livelihoods.
“Your sacrifices are seen, your prayers are heard, and your impact is immeasurable. You are the heartbeat of our homes and the foundation of our future,” he stated.
He concluded by wishing all mothers a happy Mothering Sunday, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to policies that strengthen families and promote shared prosperity.

  • 2027: Focus on your poor delusional representation — former Abia speaker, Chinedum Orji replies Obi Aguocha

    Maduka University

The former speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, has urged the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, to focus on his poor delusional representation at the National Assembly rather than throwing unprovoked tantrums at him.

The ex-speaker, known for not replying to his critics and opposition voices in the media, fumed that Aguocha’s consistent penchant for carelessly denigrating him everywhere is a gross sign of low self-esteem, cluelessness, delusional persecution, and abysmal failure as a federal lawmaker on legislative matters — with lack of direct human capital development and poor empowerment of his constituents.

In a statement made available to journalists, Orji said:

“Can someone advise the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Obi Aguocha, to kindly focus on his poor delusional representation at the green chamber of the National Assembly than throwing unprovoked tantrums at me?

“Can someone tell Hon. Obi Aguocha to stop deceiving himself with the mantra of Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration for cheap socio-political emotions, clout-chasing, hypnosis, theatrics and sentiments?

“Hon. Aguocha’s consistent penchant for carelessly denigrating me everywhere is a gross sign of his low self-esteem, cluelessness, delusional persecution and abysmal failure as a federal lawmaker who is deeply ineffective in the legislative matters of law-making, direct human capital development, essential bill sponsorships and credible empowerment of his federal constituency.

“Hiding under the spotlight of the governor of our state and abusing every stakeholder that constructively criticises him, while himself continues to abuse the administration of President Bola Tinubu, amounts to nothing but sheer hypocrisy and sycophancy.

“Why is Hon. Obi Aguocha afraid of a particular person? I guess he is afraid because 2027 is not 2023. It is widely believed that 2023 was ‘iko onu’ and incitement of the people. 2027 is operation show your scorecard.

“It is a well-known fact that Aguocha’s political history is full of ‘iko onu’ as he demonstrated by breaking a practiced legislative decorum outside the legislative chambers where he abuses his direct boss and deputy speaker at the National Assembly — who opened the workings of the National Assembly to him for the benefits of ndi Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, which he failed to utilize.

“I challenge him to a public debate moderated by any person of his choosing, to account for stewardship of public offices held.

“For the past three years, I have never uttered a word against Obi Aguocha’s stewardship as I feel it is his fundamental right to represent the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency, having been affirmed by the court of law which, as a law-abiding citizen, I have to obey.

“It is not a sin to lose an election, but it is a ‘bigger sin’ to be an embodiment of failure at the assignment the lawmaker presently has. Defeating me in the last election should not and cannot be an achievement which should grant Aguocha personal satisfaction, as it has no direct benefit to the people he is representing.”

Engr. Chinedum also reminded Obi Aguocha that he is a guru in the art of “iko onu” but will not stoop to that level with him.

“Let me say this without any contradiction. I am also a guru in the art of ‘iko onu,’ but I will not step to that level with him. I am a free citizen of Abia State and Nigeria. It is therefore my fundamental right to seek elective position even if he does not like my face, which means nothing to me.”

Recall that Hon. Obi Aguocha had stated that he is not afraid to contest against Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji, stressing that he defeated him at the polls in the previous election and that he will defeat him again.

While addressing newsmen at his country home on Tuesday, Aguocha — who sounded too confident of securing the Labour Party ticket for a second term at the Federal House of Representatives — dared Chinedum Orji to be ready to engage the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency with records.

Gregory University Uturu (GUU) is fast becoming a destination of choice for medical and health sciences education in Abia State and Nigeria’s South East. With a growing track record of producing globally qualified healthcare professionals, the university is solidifying its reputation as an emerging medical hub.

Now in its 14th year, GUU has inducted multiple cohorts of health professionals across medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical laboratory science, radiography, and public health. Recent ceremonies alone saw the induction of 31 Doctors of Pharmacy, 35 medical doctors, 16 medical laboratory scientists, and 39 nurses, all between March and April 2026. Since its first medical induction in December 2023, the university has graduated and inducted 209 doctors in three years, with excellent testimonies attesting to their professional impact. In total, GUU has produced 351 medical professionals since it commenced training in Medicine and Allied Health programmes in 2016.

GUU’s rise is anchored on experienced faculty and sustained investment in infrastructure. The College of Medicine and Health Sciences runs programmes fully accredited the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), and Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

The university’s Primary Medical Qualification (PMQ) now meets the criteria set the United Kingdom’s General Medical Council for an acceptable overseas qualification. The Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Obiora Obeagu, has commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for what he described as unprecedented strides in security, as he hosted over 500 Forest Guards from the Enugu-East Senatorial Zone.
Obeagu spoke on Wednesday at the council headquarters in Ikem while receiving the Forest Guards recently trained under the state’s revamped security architecture.
He credited the Mbah administration with bold interventions that have significantly improved safety across Enugu State, citing the dismantling of illegal sit-at-home enforcement, the establishment of a Command and Control Centre, the Distress Response Squad (DRS), and the operationalisation of the State Security Trust Fund.
The council boss also highlighted key infrastructure projects with security implications, including the 21.7-kilometre Ogbete-Agu Mgbuji road, alongside the procurement of patrol vehicles and deployment of digital surveillance systems.
Obeagu particularly praised the restructuring of the Forest Guards system, describing it as a strategic move to secure forests and rural communities.
He noted that the appointment of Akinbayo Olasoji as Commander of the Forest Guards demonstrates the governor’s commitment to excellence and national inclusiveness.
The chairman urged the personnel to justify the government’s investment in their training through discipline and dedication.
“I urge you to shun absenteeism and dereliction of duty, which not only shortchanges the system but endangers the lives and property of our people—our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters,” he said.
He further reminded them of their responsibility as part of government’s core mandate to protect lives and property, stressing that their conduct would directly impact public confidence in the security system.
Obeagu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the state government, the Forest Guards, and other security agencies to strengthen safety across the council area.
The Forest Guards, drawn from the Enugu-East zone, commended the chairman for his support, mentorship, and hospitality, pledging their commitment to duty and the overall security objectives of the state.

  • Enugu LG Chair Backs Gov Mbah’s Aviation Drive, Produces 2nd Batch of Middle Level Aviation Graduates

Enugu LG Chair Backs Gov Mbah’s Aviation Drive, Produces 2nd Batch of Middle Level Aviation Graduates

    Maduka University
…Chairman Anike: “The Sky Is Your Starting Point”
Enugu East Local Government Council, under the leadership of Executive Chairman Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, has presented certificates to a second batch of 40 middle-level aviation graduates trained at the Universal School of Aviation, Lagos, reinforcing Governor Peter Mbah’s aviation transformation agenda.
The ceremony, held at the Council Headquarters, Nkwo Nike, marks the second cohort sponsored by the Anike-led administration, bringing the total number of trained aviation personnel from the LGA to over 80.
In his keynote address, Engr. Anike described the event as “more than a certification ceremony—it is a declaration that capacity is being built, futures are being shaped, and a new workforce is rising to power the aviation industry.”
The Batch 2 graduates completed training across five critical areas: Cabin Crew, Flight Dispatch, Air Ticketing, Aviation Management, and Travel Agency Management.
Linking the initiative to state policy, the Chairman stated: “In Enugu State, we are witnessing a quantum expansion of the aviation ecosystem—through initiatives such as Enugu Air and the strategic upgrade of Akanu Ibiam International Airport into a modern, globally competitive hub… airports run not just on infrastructure, but on competence.”
He described the programme as a pillar of “Human Capital Development 2.0,” noting: “This is the essence of Human Capital Development 2.0—where training translates into transformation, and individuals become contributors to a thriving economy. Our objective is clear: To create jobs, to improve livelihoods, and to drive inclusive economic growth.”
Representing the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Ify Ugbonabo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, commended the Council’s proactive approach:
“I commend the Chairman of Enugu East LGA for his foresight and leadership. He has not only keyed into the ‘One Youth, One Skill’ initiative but has deliberately identified aviation as a high-value opportunity sector and extended that opportunity to his people. This is exactly the kind of proactive leadership His Excellency encourages all local government chairmen across the state to emulate. The Ministry’s recent engagements show that many of our people are not currently equipped with the specialized skills required to compete in the industry.”
Industry stakeholders also lauded the initiative. Mr. Hilary Umunna, Regional Manager, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said:
“Coming here today, I saw young aspiring leaders in the aviation industry. I’m happy seeing that it is young people that were trained, and it gives them the opportunity to grow in the industry. That alone exceeded my expectation. This training opens these young people to opportunities not just in Enugu State but across the nation.”_
Mr. Ifeanyi, representative of the Station Manager, added: “Your Chairman is a man of wisdom, vision, and a man on a mission. It takes leadership with vision to look beyond what is obtainable in his environment and think forward, and that is what your Chairman has done. This is the kind of leadership we need in Nigeria.”
Engr. Anike closed with a direct appeal to the aviation sector: “I therefore respectfully call on aviation agencies, airlines, ground handling companies, travel operators, and regulatory bodies to open their doors for these graduands to undertake the mandatory internship and on-the-job training required for full professional integration. This is not just support—it is an investment in competence.”
Addressing the graduates, he charged: “You are not just certificate holders—you are emerging professionals… As you step into the industry, remember—the sky is not your limit, it is your starting point.”
  • Fuel Prices Rise As Dangote Refinery Announces Increase, Diesel now N1,950

Fuel Prices Rise As Dangote Refinery Announces Increase, Diesel now N1,950

    Maduka University
Amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their ripple effects on global energy markets, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased the gantry price of petrol and diesel, further tightening pressure on consumers and businesses across Nigeria.

A top official at the refinery, who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday night, said the facility adjusted its pricing in response to prevailing international crude oil benchmarks and market realities.

The new pricing template shows that petrol rose by N75 per litre to N1,275, representing an increase of about 5.02 per cent, while diesel jumped by N200 per litre to N1,950.

This marks a sharp increase from last month’s prices of N1,200 per litre for petrol and N1,750 for diesel, signalling that diesel is now on track to breach the N2,000 per litre mark at the pump, further intensifying cost pressures across the economy.

“The adjustment is in line with global market trends. You are aware of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and how they have impacted crude oil prices. These are external factors that directly influence refined product pricing,” the official, who spoke in confidence due to the lack of authorisation to speak on the matter, stated.

He added, “Petrol has been reviewed upward by N75 to N1,275 per litre, which is about a five per cent increase, while diesel has increased more significantly by N200 to N1,950 per litre. These changes reflect the realities of the international market.”

Market data from Petroleumprice.ng corroborated the development, indicating that the latest petrol price reflects a 5.02 per cent increase at the gantry level.

The development comes at a time when stakeholders had hoped that increased local refining capacity would help stabilise domestic fuel prices. However, analysts say Nigeria remains exposed to global oil price volatility due to its reliance on international crude benchmarks for pricing.

The latest hike could trigger a fresh wave of increases in pump prices nationwide, with marketers expected to pass on the additional cost to consumers in the coming days.

Global oil markets have remained volatile in recent weeks due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, a region that accounts for a significant share of the world’s crude oil supply. Any disruption or perceived risk to supply routes often leads to price spikes, which in turn affect refined petroleum products globally.

Nigeria, despite being an oil-producing country, operates a deregulated downstream sector where fuel prices are largely determined by market forces. This means that local prices are influenced by international crude prices, exchange rates, logistics costs, and refinery operations.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Africa’s largest, was expected to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel and help stabilise prices. However, experts note that as long as crude oil pricing remains tied to global benchmarks, domestic fuel prices will continue to fluctuate in response to international developments.

The latest increase also comes amid concerns over affordability, with consumers already grappling with high energy and transportation costs. A sustained price increase could worsen inflationary pressures and slow economic recovery.

Enugu East Chairman Signs ₦5bn Women Empowerment Fund Deal

    Maduka University

Enugu—The Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Pastor Beloved-Dan Anike, has led the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Enugu East Women Cooperative Empowerment & Endowment Fund (W-CEEF) and Umuchinemere Pro-Credit Microfinance Bank.

Speaking at the ceremony, Anike described the initiative as a bold and forward-looking intervention aimed at expanding economic opportunities for women across the council area.

He said the programme, which targets over ₦5 billion in funding within the next decade, is designed to empower women-led enterprises, strengthen cooperative structures, and drive inclusive economic growth.

According to the chairman, the initiative is already positioned for immediate impact, with more than 200 women cooperatives across Enugu East profiled and ready to benefit from the scheme.

“This is not just about signing a document—it is about signing a future,” Anike stated, noting that the vision of the programme is to ensure that every woman, regardless of background or location, has access to finance and economic dignity.

He emphasised that the partnership with Umuchinemere Pro-Credit Microfinance Bank is strategic, as the institution brings the financial expertise, operational systems, and accountability required to ensure transparency and sustainability.
Anike further stressed the importance of collaboration, noting that while government provides policy direction, meaningful impact depends on strong institutional partnerships.

Beyond access to finance, the W-CEEF programme will include a dedicated grant window to support women’s education and specialized skills acquisition in key sectors such as healthcare, digital technology, agro-processing, and enterprise development.

The chairman also highlighted the programme’s inclusive approach, stating that it will be extended to women in urban, rural, peri-urban, and hard-to-reach communities across Enugu East.

In addition, he noted that the initiative incorporates support for the girl-child through education, mentorship, and leadership development pathways.
Stakeholders at the event expressed confidence that the partnership would create a sustainable framework for women’s empowerment and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Enugu East.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to ensure effective implementation and long-term impact of the programme.

  • Awka Tensions Rise as Ndigwe Defies Soludo, Parades as “Ezeuzu III”

Awka Tensions Rise as Ndigwe Defies Soludo, Parades as “Ezeuzu III”

    Maduka University

    By Okey Maduforo, Awka

Awka, the ancient capital of Anambra State, is currently experiencing heightened tension following the defiance of Ozo Austin Ndigwe to a government directive ordering him to stop parading himself as Eze Uzu III of Awka Kingdom.

Ndigwe, accompanied by a convoy of police officers on dispatch riders and some titled men of Awka, drove through several streets in the town before attending a memorial service for the parents of Chukwukadibia Obiakor.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Ndigwe was seen moving in a convoy while supporters hailed and praised him as “Ezeuzu III” of Awka Kingdom.

A statement shared on his Facebook page read:

“His Imperial Majesty, Obi Dr. Chukwuezugo Austin Ndigwe, MON, JP, Ezeuzu III of Awka Ancient Kingdom, felicitated with Lt. Gen. Chukwukadibia Obiakor at the memorial service of their parents, held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Umudioka Village, Awka.

At the same time, Obi Ezeuzu Awka paid a condolence visit to one of his cabinet chiefs, Akadiana n’Amikwo Awka, over the death of his wife, and also visited his former cabinet chief member (Akwudolueze) of Otochali Achalla-Orji Village, Nkwelle Awka.

    Long live Ezeuzu Awka III.

    Long live Awka Naso Enwe.

    Long live Anambra State.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    Signed,

    Ezeuzu-in-Council.”

However, the Anambra State Government had earlier declared that Obi Gibson Nwosu is the authentic traditional ruler of Awka town and directed Ndigwe to cease parading himself as monarch.

The directive was conveyed in a White Paper presented to the Awka Town Union by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tochukwu Nweke, acting on behalf of the state authorities.

The document clarified the succession framework of the Awka Kingdom, stating that after the reigns of Ezeuzu I from the Ifite section and Ezeuzu II from the Ezi section, subsequent rulers are to emerge in order of seniority from designated quarters, including Nkwelle, Amachalla na Ato, Agulu, and Ifite Awka.

According to the government, Ndigwe is not the traditional ruler of Awka, and his claim to the Ezeuzu stool is unlawful.

The White Paper is widely seen as a decisive move to end years of dispute over the revered stool, providing legal and administrative clarity to the traditional leadership structure in Awka.

Governor Charles Soludo had on several occasions warned Ndigwe to desist from parading himself as monarch, without success.

This led to the constitution of the Justice Paul Obidigwe Panel to investigate the matter, which ultimately affirmed Nwosu as the authentic traditional ruler.

The government’s White Paper now stands as the final authority on the issue, serving as a definitive directive to Ndigwe to cease further claims to the throne.

NOA Staff, Pensioners Protest Alleged Land Grabbing in Enugu, Seek Gov Mbah’s Intervention

    Maduka University

    By Chinedu Sabastine
Pensioners and staff of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Enugu State have called on Governor Peter Mbah to intervene over the alleged resale of 90 plots of land belonging to them at Uhuagu, Obeagu-Uno in Enugu South.
The aggrieved workers, who staged a peaceful protest at the site, accused one Pius Ugwu and his son, Ebuka, of reselling the land to suspected grabbers despite an existing court injunction.
They explained that the land was purchased in 2017 through an estate agent, Lion of Judah, who reportedly acquired it from Ugwu, stressing that all payments and documentation were duly completed.
Spokesman of the group, Venerable Emeka Agana, alleged that the disputed land has been forcefully taken over, with fences and structures demolished in defiance of a subsisting court order.
“We paid all fees, including development levies to the community. We have valid documents. The sellers are not denying the transaction, yet they have continued to resell the land,” he said.
Agana lamented that many of the victims are pensioners and widows who invested their life savings or obtained loans to acquire the plots.
He urged the state government to urgently intervene and help them recover their property.
The protesters also warned prospective buyers to steer clear of the land, noting that the matter remains pending in court.

  • EEDL Uncovers 300 Energy Theft Cases in Ebonyi, Warns of Crackdown on Meter Tampering

EEDL Uncovers 300 Energy Theft Cases in Ebonyi, Warns of Crackdown on Meter Tampering

    Maduka University

Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited (EEDL) has raised serious concern over the growing incidence of meter bypass and other forms of energy theft across Ebonyi State, disclosing that over 300 confirmed cases—backed by detailed inspection reports as well as pictorial and video evidence—were uncovered during monitoring and enforcement operations carried out in the first quarter of 2026.
The development was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki by the Head, Communications, EEDL, Mrs. Patience Ezeagu.
According to the statement, the cases were identified following intensified inspection exercises conducted by the company’s technical and commercial teams across Ebonyi State as part of ongoing efforts to protect electricity infrastructure and improve service delivery.
She strongly condemned meter bypass and energy theft, describing the practice as illegal, dangerous, and detrimental to sustainable electricity supply.
“Meter bypass and energy theft are criminal acts that sabotage the power sector, damage critical infrastructure, and deprive honest customers of quality power supply. Electricity facilities are shared community assets, and when individuals tamper with meters or steal energy, entire communities suffer outages and equipment failures,” Ezeagu said.
She noted that energy theft contributes significantly to transformer overload, frequent power interruptions, increased operational costs, and safety hazards, including fire outbreaks and electrocution.
Ezeagu also condemned reported incidents where some customers allegedly attacked or obstructed EEDL field personnel during inspection activities.
She emphasized that EEDL remains committed to supporting economic growth and development in Ebonyi State through improved energy distribution and network enhancement.
“EEDL has come to partner with the people and government of Ebonyi State to drive development through reliable electricity supply. However, no electricity business can survive or sustain improvement efforts if energy theft continues unabated. Responsible energy use is essential for progress,” she added.
The company disclosed that customers found culpable have been issued penalty charges in line with existing electricity regulations, while further enforcement measures—including disconnection and possible prosecution—may be applied where necessary.
EEDL also announced that monitoring and surveillance operations have been intensified across the state and advised customers currently involved in meter bypass or unauthorized connections to desist and immediately regularize their electricity supply to avoid sanctions.
The company appealed to residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to support efforts aimed at combating energy theft by reporting suspicious electricity activities within their communities.
EEDL reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electricity services while protecting the interests of law-abiding customers across Ebonyi State.
