The Ebonyi State House of Assembly have ordered a mining company, First Patriot Limited formally known as Royal Salt operating in Ikwo location Government Area of the State to immediately commence the rebuilding of the church auditorium of Holy Rosary Catholic Church Enyim Agalegu which it’s blasts had dilapidated since 2022.
The parishioners and the Parish Priest of the Catholic Church in a petition to the State House Assembly accused the mining company of destroying it’s church auditorium following consistent blasting carried out by the company.
The directive was issued by the State Assembly Committee on Public Petition , Justice and Judiciary which recommended that the company should immediately commenced the rebuilding of the church auditorium.
The Chairman of the Committee, Barr. Innocent Nome said that the recommendation followed a thorough investigation into the petition by the church.
He maintained that the committee worked on the petition with the notion of encouraging both parties to maintain peace and ascertain the truthfulness or otherwise of the content of the petition.
He stated that the committee also recommended that the company should from time to time carryout environmental impact assessment within the area of thier operations to know how to cushion the effect of the mining activities to the people living within the area.
“After our thorough investigation on the matter, we have mandated the company to ensure that they complete the rebuilding of the church and hand it over to the church within a period of 3 months.
The Director of First Patriot Limited, Mr Obio Alio commended the House Committee for amicably resolving the issues devoid of rancour and break down of law and order and assured that the company will abide by all the resolutions of the Committee. Ends.
