The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected the Nigerian government’s plan to establish an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) rehabilitation and skills acquisition centres in Ehime Mbano, Ohaji Egbema and Owerri North Local Government Areas of Imo State.

IPOB which made this known on Monday in a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, accused the Nigerian government of plans to dispossess people of the communities of their ancestral lands and heritage, saying “it will not work.”

Powerful said, “They have tried all forms of land grabbing techniques with different names such as RUGA, and these all failed. Now they want to import so-called displaced persons from Northern Nigeria, a distance of thousands of kilometres away from their locality and homeland into Imo State.

“These people never set up skills acquisition programs for the millions of jobless youths in our land but consider bringing in Boko Haram foot soldiers into South-East in the name of skills acquisition for internally displaced persons.”

According to him, “The Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra wants to inform the Nigerian government and Hope Uzodinma that we are aware of the real intention of this so-called IDP rehabilitation centre in Imo State.”

Powerful , who vowed that people of the South-East “will not allow such a wicked infiltration act to go on in Alaigbo,” said “The United Nations is fully aware of the persecution, subjugation, and intimidation Ndigbo are facing in the hands of the rest of Nigeria and their government.”

He said “The UN knows that Nigeria has not established or encouraged any infrastructural or industrial development in Alaigbo except prisons and military installations.”

According to him, there is no Federal Government presence in the South-East, “So, we cannot allow this IDPs training camp for training of Fulani repented Boko Haram terrorists to stand in our territory especially the one proposed in Ehime Mbano LGA, Ohaji Egbema LGA and Owerri North in Imo State.

“The United Nations never established any project in Igbo land, but now they agree to bring an IDP camp to Imo State. We are making it precisely clear that it will not be accepted nor will it work.

“This project of the Nigerian Government is to commit mass murder of innocent Northern children in this IDP camp and then turn around as always to point accusing fingers at IPOB in order to blackmail our genuine cause for the liberation of our land and people and turn international outrage against the Biafra struggle.

“It is imperative that we raise this alarm ahead of this project to avoid this evil agenda from happening and for the sake of history.

“The International Community should compel the Nigeria government to desist from this project because IPOB has already exposed their agenda.
“We are warning the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to stop being a stooge for the federal government of Nigeria against the safety and interest of Ndigbo.”

But does establishing skills acquisition centers for IDP camps people in a state Imo State far away from their states even make any economic or psychological sense? At the minimum, it is even a further perpetration of displacement of this people displaced instead of integrating them in their states to have a sense of belonging again in their displaced states. Secondly in the sense of wisdom of NYSC corpers where youths or graduands fresh from Nigerian universities are posted to various states away from their states of origins to foster national unity and brotherhood, the posting of these IDP camps people to Imo State for skills acquisition is akin to infecting undisplaced people with the terrible negative psychological feelings of displacement and trauma, so it too is not only a further perpetration of displacement but also an advanced form of internally displacement on more people.

Five Arrested By Police For Wearing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-Shirts

Five men have been arrested and arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Maiduguri, Borno State, after police allegedly found them wearing T-shirts bearing the words “Tinubu Must Go.”

The defendants were identified as Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21.

According to a First Information Report issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department, the incident occurred on September 25, 2026, near West End Roundabout in Maiduguri.

Police charged the five men with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace and thuggery under Sections 60, 78, 79 and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Court I in Maiduguri.

Their lawyer subsequently applied for bail. The court adjourned the matter until October 6, 2026, to rule on the bail application, while the substantive trial has been scheduled for October 26.

The case has drawn attention because the alleged conduct involved wearing clothing displaying a political message.

Amnesty International criticised the prosecution, describing the arrests as arbitrary and arguing that peaceful political expression is protected by fundamental human rights. The organisation called for the immediate release of the five men and urged authorities to discontinue the case.

Amnesty International also expressed concern that the prosecution could have implications for political expression and opposition activities in Borno State.

The case has generated reactions on social media, with some commentators questioning whether the display of political messages on clothing should constitute a criminal offence.

There have also been allegations that a prominent politician in Borno State may have influenced the arrests. The allegation has not been independently verified.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, were reportedly unsuccessful as of the time of filing.

The defendants remain subject to the court process, and the allegations against them have not been established in court.

The board’s Public Relations Officer, Dauda Hadejia, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Hadejia said the arrests followed a complaint filed by a 22-year-old man, who alleged that nine individuals had engaged in sexual acts with him on different occasions.

According to the statement, the complainant also claimed that he later contracted HIV, which he attributed to the alleged encounters. He reportedly appealed to the Hisbah authorities for justice, describing the alleged conduct as deceptive and harmful to his life.

Following the complaint, Hadejia said Hisbah operatives launched an investigation and began searching for the nine individuals named by the complainant.

He added that the eight arrested individuals reportedly admitted during preliminary investigations to having engaged in sexual acts with the complainant.

Hadejia said the board had gathered information and evidence that would be presented before a court. He added that the investigation remained ongoing and that the suspects would be charged upon its completion.

The Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dr. Hussain Baban, reportedly urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s upbringing and the people with whom they associate.
