The Vice Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (AE- FUNAI), Prof Sunday Elom yesterday said that management of the institution will not condone any form of cultism, money-for-marks, examination malpractice and campus prostitution.
Prof Elom who made the declaration during the 9th matriculation ceremony of the university also warned against drug abuse, indecent dressing and unruly behavior.
He advised the matriculating students to shun anything that can deter them from reaching their goals adding that the University is not a heaven for any kinds of misconducts.
He pointed out that the school would not hesitate to rusticate or expell any of the culprits and admonish them to concentrate on their studies.
“Beware of the so called campus life attractions because we have zero tolerance for all forms of social vices”.
Prof Elom urged the students to report any form of sexual abuse, intimidation and extortion from staff to the relevant authorities and assured the student of disciplinary actions against any staff that is found to be intimidating or harassing any student sexually.
The Vice Chancellor noted that management are not oblivious of the challenges facing the students and staff of the situation.
He enumerated some of the challenges to include, accommodation problem, lack of banking facility, inadequate lecture halls, heightened insecurity due to the ongoing communal conflict between our host community – Ikwo and Izzi.
Prof Elom said that despite the challenges, the University is on the ight track adding that management remains committed to students’ welfare and would continue to improve the conditions in the hostels and the entire campus.
“We are putting things in place to make sure your stay on campus is peaceful, comfortable and worthwhile”.
“Our long term plan is to have at least 60% of the students’ population living on campus. Plans are also on the way to construct more faculty buildings, lecture halls and theaters and staff offices to enhance teaching and learning”
Prof Elom stated that the number of matriculating students for the 2020/2021 academic year stands at 4,715 adding that out of the number, 2,191 are males while 2, 524 are females. Ends.
