The 40 plus Club, a social club based in Enugu has described the death of Kano born activist Danjuma Gambo as a major blow, both to the Club, Enugu State and Nigeria at large.
A statement signed by the Chairman Petrus Obi and General Secretary of the Club Dr. Ndubuisi Okereke, said Gambo would be missed by the club, which he is a foundation member.
They wrote: 40 plus club mourns an outstanding member, activist and a great Nigerian citizen, Danjuma Gambo.
“Gambo, you didn’t show any sign that you were departing this sinful world. We didn’t even know you took ill, but this sad news.
“We shall miss your punctuality with time, hard stance on injustice, detest and hatred for social vices and fraud.
“You may be gone, sir, but you left your mark on the sands of time. Adieu Alhaji Gambo.”
A devout Christian, Gambo’s illness started during Sunday worship at the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd Independence Layout Enugu, from where he was rushed to the hospital.
He wasn’t able to make it after battling the ailment for about a month.
A former Student leader and activist, late Gambo was rusticated in 1986 from the ABU University Zaria for his stand against injustice in defense of his fellow students.
He was to relocate to the University of Nigerian Nsukka were he graduated.
A member of of the Board of the Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Gambo has lived most of his life in Enugu and is well known and respected.
