The people of Oji River have warned against perceived plots to return the incumbent Local Government chairman
Frank Udemezue for a second term in office.
The Chairman who is serving out the four year tenure for Ugwuoba/Oji River Urban stands disqualified by the zoning system which has been in place.
The immediate past Chairman Hon Harrison Okeke who served only two years as Council Chairman also hails from the same zone as the incumbent.
The incumbent has thus served out the turn of his people.
Oji River had zoned the position amongst it’s three zones, with each Zone given four years.
It is now the turn of zone A, Achi, and the people are threatening fire and brimstone should anyone attempt to go against the zoning.
The Oji River Youths Congress worldwide has, however, alleged plans to tamper with the zoning agreement entered into and signed by all the Traditional Rulers and Presidents General of all the autonomous communities in Oji River to rotate elective offices in Oji River.
A statement signed by representatives of the youth said “it is a total no-no that anybody would as much as consider a tenure extension for the present LGA chairman by whatever guise. This is a total disrespect to Oji People and is absolutely unacceptable.
“It is imperative to note that this so called zoning was in the first instance in the interest of less populous Towns who may not be able to pull through any openly contested elections in the local council.
“Oji Youths therefore warn that any attempt to disrupt the political arrangement would be a call for total political anarchy.
“Oji Youths demand the discontinuation of even mere dream of any tenure extension and warn the architects to desist forthwith.
“Oji Youths hereby warn all political mischief makers who may be advising the current Council Chairman to even consider this ill advised move ,we are watching and we are taking notes. We would blacklist such politicians and make sure they are casted permanently into political abyss.
“Oji Youths are calling on all Oji River political and traditional stakeholders to rise up now and put a stop to this rubbish, and to convene an emergency session to update the agreement to reflect the current status of the zones.”
