Awgu Women under the auspices of “Future Hope Women’s Organisation, Awgu” last Sunday threw their weight behind the quest by the Enugu Gubernatorial Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Pastor Donatus Obi Ozoemena to rule Coal City State this year.

The Lady President of the Non-Governmental-Organisation (NGO) Mrs Joy Samuel Okoh, who stated this at the formal launching of the union’s almanack/award ceremony, said that Pastor Ozoemena is consistent in empowering the people of Enugu State despite the fact that he has not served in government.

“Pastor Ozoemena has positively touched lives in Awgu, Enugu State and beyond through his philanthropism and that informed our collective decision to pay him back by voting for him at the governorship election.

Mrs Okoh maintained that they would continue to campaign for the success of the ADC flag-bearer at the poll, pointing out that they had since begun sensitization of the electorate in various communities in the state to realise the task.

“We, ‘The International Star Ladies’, as we are also known, are in addition giving our Incoming Governor, Pastor Donatus Obi  Ozoemena, an award of Excellence for all his efforts and achievements over the years’ ‘, she added.

Earlier in an address, the General Secretary of the Organisation, Mrs Angel Ikechukwu, stated that the union was established ten years ago by visionary women who believed that Awgu  women’s future would be great in time to come.

“Future Hope Women’s Organisation has a vision and mission to reach out to women with the intention of making them financially and educational stable due to the prevailing situation in the country after seeing how many of our women who are wallowing in abject poverty and lagging behind in education”, she stated.

Speaking at the occasion, the ADC standard bearer, Pastor Ozoemena, appreciated the women for backing his governorship project, adding that he would not take it for granted.

Pastor Ozoemena said he was called by God to come home and rescue Enugu State people from servitude and pains occasioned by bad leadership.

“Today is not a speech making day but I stand here sincerely to declare that if elected as governor of Enugu State, I will effect a positive change in the lives of the people.

“With great experience I have acquired from the United States of America over a long period of time and joint efforts, we can transform Enugu State and its economy to be one of the best in the world.

“It’s time for all of us to join hands in creating the kind of change desirable for all of us and our children. Enugu State has everything we need to be great. But we need the right leadership to give us what you desire.

“The Lord God directed that I must return home to help rebuild my beloved birth place. God said to me, ‘Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. This informed my decision to abandon everything I was doing overseas to come and rescue Enugu State”, he said.

Various speakers at the event including the chairman of the occasion, Chief Ifeanyi Okoh, dwelt on the need to encourage girl-child education.

They commended the group for championing the course of women folk, urging them to use their local and international vision to move the society to greater heights.

The high points of the occasion were the launching of the N100m almanack fund and investiture of awards on recipients.
