The Immediate Past Woman Leader Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon Beatrice Nkwuda yesterday raised the alarm over possible mass exodus of old members of the party following the adoption of the Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Francis Nwifuru by the State Governor as candidate of the party.
In an interview with Newsmen in Abakaliki, the former Special Adviser to Governor Martin Elechi said that the old members are raising the alarm to draw the attention of the National Leadership of the party to the impending doom.
Mrs. Nkwuda who condemned the unilateral adoption of the Speaker by the State Governor regretted that the zoning committee set up by the party to look at the zoning principels of the state were yet to submit their report and “the Governor went ahead to endorse a candidate”.
“The party set up a zoning committee to go round and harmonize the zoning arrangements of the different wards, local government and Senatorial districts, the Committee is yet to finish their work and the Governor without consulting anyone, went ahead to adopt an aspirant”.
Mrs. Nkwuda stated that the controversial adoption has generated serious political tension in the state adding that the state cannot afford to witness any form of violence, skirmishes and infighting within the party.
“Let me put it on record that the adoption by the Governor has just generated serious political tension in the once peaceful All Progressives Congress APC in the state and in general the state at large”.
“The adoption since it’s announcement by the Governor has recieved wide condemnation from members of the party. The Governor before now announced that he would allow the people choose whom to govern them but he is now doing exactly the opposite”.
She noted that with the tension currently generated, there is a possible implosion and crisis within the party adding that the party cannot afford to have crisis few months to the general election.
“I must say that the Governor is gradually losing the confidence and trust members of the party reposed on him. The Governor can’t be saying a different thing and be doing a different thing. He should allow a level playing ground for every aspirant”.
“The women will stand up against any form of imposition and we are going to mobilize and ensure that the National Leadership of the party do the needful. They shouldn’t allow the Governor destroy the party”.
She called on the Governor to resend his decision and allow every aspirant exercise his popularity rather than muscling everyone to support his candidate. Ends.
