The Ebonyi State Police Command has said that it has commenced disciplinary actions against some of its officers caught in a viral video circulating in the social media extorting money from motorist along some major roads in the State.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, DSP Joshua Ukandu said that the command denounces the unprofessional behavior of its officers.

“The command is aware of videos making rounds on social media depicting our officers acting unprofessionally at their duty posts.

“The command unequivocally condemns their actions and has identified the officers involved, while disciplinary actions have already been initiated against them.

He noted that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, is using this medium to reiterate the command’s zero tolerance for extortion or any form of misconduct adding that any officer found wanting would face disciplinary actions.

There has been petitions and complaints by motorist and commuters plying the ever-busy Enugu-Abakaliki Express road, Abakaliki-Afikpo express road, Old Ogoja express road and Hilltop Road over alleged extortion, harassment and intimidation of officers along the different checkpoints along the express road.
