The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all 260 ward councillorship positions across Enugu State’s 17 Local Government Areas in the local government elections held on Saturday.

Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Prof. Christian Ngwu, made the announcement on Monday in Enugu.

Ngwu explained that the delay in announcing the councilorship results was due to thorough scrutiny of the figures to ensure accuracy.

This development follows ENSIEC’s earlier declaration on Sunday, confirming PDP’s victory in all 17 chairmanship seats in the state.

Ngwu, who served as the returning officer for the polls, stated that the commission had carefully collated and analyzed the results to avoid any discrepancies or breaches of the state’s electoral laws.

“The PDP won all 260 ward councillorship positions across the state. The election was conducted peacefully, and it was free, fair, and credible,” he said.

He emphasized that ENSIEC provided a level playing field for all 17 political parties that participated in the polls held on September 21.

Ngwu further assured the public that the full details of the councilorship results would be released soon. He added that certificates of return would be issued to the winners of both the chairmanship and councillorship positions in the coming days.

The ENSIEC chairman noted that the polls were largely peaceful, with no significant reports of violence or disturbances.

“There were no substantial records of violence or breaches of peace during the elections. The commission is not aware of any breakdown of law and order during the polls,” he added.
