Enugu East LGA Inaugurates Committees on Asset Optimization, Human Capital Development

The Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Pastor Beloved-Dan Anike, has inaugurated two standing committees as part of efforts to promote development in the region.

Announcing the formation of the committees on Friday, October 11, 2024, the Chairman affirmed that the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to rebuilding Enugu East LGA.

“Today, Friday, 11th October 2024, inline with my administration’s commitment to rebuild Enugu East LGA, I inaugurated two standing committees,” he stated during the inauguration ceremony.

The first of these, known as the Committee on the Optimization of Underutilized Assets of Enugu East Local Government and Other Attendant Matters, is tasked with evaluating and advising on the most effective use of the council’s physical assets.

According to the Chairman, “The committee will advise the Council on the optimal utilization of physical assets, specifically the uncompleted secretariat building, the adjoining land, and other buildings on the same property.

“The aim is to establish a school of health technology or another institution, as may be recommended. They are also tasked with exploring and recommending viable partnerships to develop the center, which will train middle-level health workers for primary health centers across the state.”

The members of this committee include: Prof. Christopher Eke (Chairman), Mrs. Chioma Judith Ugwu (Secretary), Engr. Michael Okolo (Member), Dr. Mrs. Joy Uduji (Member), Sir Patrick Anigbo** (Member), Pastor Polycarp Ugwu (Member), Arc. Chukwuemeka Anike (Member),Mrs. Nneka Iloka(Member), Mr. Clifford Aneke (Member), Barr. Uchenna Mbaeke, (Member) , Hon. Obinna Ogbu,(Member).

In addition to this, the Enugu East Human Capital Development Committee was also inaugurated to spearhead efforts in implementing the local government’s Human Capital Development Law.

The committee is tasked with laying the groundwork for a Human Capital Development Trust Fund and operationalizing the development program with two core components: the Greater Tomorrow Scholarship Scheme and Skill Development initiatives.

“The Human Capital Development Program will have two main components: The Greater Tomorrow Scholarship Scheme and The Skill Development,” the Chairman said, adding that these initiatives would be central to nurturing future talent in the community.

The members of the Human Capital Development Committee are: Prof. Bethrand Amechi Ngwu (Chairman), Fr. Dr. Michael Okoh (Vice Chairman), Barr. Marcellinus A. Nnamchi (Secretary), Prof. Nicholas Okolo, (Member) , Hon. Nelson Okoh (Member), Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke, (Member), Dr. Oliver Okwor (Member), Dr. Bennett Iloka (Member), Mr. Cyril Uchenna Ugwu (Member), Mr. Samson Ugwu (Member), Prof. Linus Onuguluchi, (Member), Sir Ikechukwu Ugwu (Member), Mr. Chukwuka Anike (Member), Mbaeke Joshua Chibuike (Member).

Both committees have been given a strict timeline to report back on their progress. “Both committees are expected to submit their first preliminary report in one month and their final report in two months,” the Chairman explained.

He further urged the committees to remain committed to delivering results that would significantly benefit the people of Enugu East. “I urge the committee members to work expeditiously toward achieving the desired results for the people of Enugu East LGA,” the Chairman concluded.
