The Enugu State government has trained officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Enugu Sector Command on emergency handling in preparation for the festive season.
The Special Adviser to Governor Peter Mbah on Health Matters, Yomi Jayi who led the training at the headquarters of the Corps in Enugu on Friday said that the state government was determined to ensure the safety of motorists and travelers in the state during the ember months and beyond.
He noted that the state government was adopting a proactive method in ensuring the health and safety of residents, adding that other critical stakeholders including the Police and the National Youth Service Corps have received similar training.
“We know that the Federal Road Safety Corps is usually the first line and his Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah recognizes this. It is on this note that he is doing massive revamping of our emergency medical response system by getting ambulances on the way and providing call centers.
“You can’t do that without having partners and getting them aware and equipped with skills that are necessary. That is why we embarked on this training on tips on how to rescue victims of accidents and emergencies on the highway.
“It was a very detailed training where all the team members were on ground to show that Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), how to lift an unconscious patient, controlling bleeding among other things were detailed to them.
“This government is determined to ensure that the health systems in the state are revamped. Not just at the secondary or tertiary care level but out of hospital care. That is why these gentlemen of the command were trained today and I believe that after today, the statistics of mortality will go down and the outcome of emergencies will improve going forward.”
On his part, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Enugu State Command, Franklin Agbakoba said that the training was a demonstration of the synergy between the Peter Mbah administration and the Federal Road Safety Corps in ensuring accident free ember months in Enugu State.
He said,” The CPR training we witnessed today is a synergy between the state government and the FRSC. What that has done is to strengthen and boost the knowledge of FRSC personnel in terms of rescue missions.
“For me, this is a unique one because Mr Jayi came in person to handle this training programme. Having said that, for the FRSC, we have our motion in place to ensure that we have accident free Ember months.
Agbakoba also noted that the Corps has kick-started a series of public enlightenment activities at motor parks, market places, churches and schools to ensure that residents are safe during the ember months.
