Counsel to Awgu Local Government Area Obumneme Okafor Esq has dismissed reports that the Council demolished shops at the Orie Awgu market in violation of a court injunction.

In a statement made available to Everydaynewsngr.net the lawyer described the reports as false and unfounded.

The plaintiffs in Suit No:
HAW/28/2021-Chief Moses Adunike & Ors v. Igwe Christopher Obi & others had accused the Chairman Hon Pedro Nwankwo of using the instruments of Government to demolish the market and sell portions of the land in violation of the Court order.

But the lawyer who represent the 10th and 12th defendants namely; Awgu Local Government Council and the Chairman, Mr.
Pedro Nwankwo respectively said there was no such thing.

Je said; “We wish to state that we are aware of the subsisting restraining order of court and categorically deny that our clients have in any way violated or contravened the said order as our clients are law abiding and are aware of the consequences of any such
contravention.

“Ordinarily, we would have ignored the said publication as same is devoid of any truth but this rejoinder is necessary to set the records straight.

“Our clients have not undertaken any construction or demolition of any kind at the Orie Awgu Market subsequent to the Order of Court directing parties to maintain the status quo.

“We further state that our clients did not sell and do not intend to sell any land forming part of the Orie Awgu Market to any
individual whether politician or not. We urge the public to disregard the obviously malicious allegations contained in the said
publication as same was sponsored by individuals who are averse to community development.

“We encourage the general public to report any person seen carrying out any form of demolition or construction in market to the Local Government Council or the nearest police station.”
