NBA Petitions CP Over Gruesome Murder Of Colleague’s Wife In Ebonyi

…Accuses Police, Others
The Nigeria Bar Association, Onueke Branch has Petitioned the Ebonyi State Police Commissioner, CP Aliyu Garba over alleged gruesome murder of Mrs. Amechi Gloria Enyi, wife of Barr. Amechi Shedrack Enyi.
The petition dated 26th November 2021, signed by Barr. Ikechukwu Njoku, (Bar Leader) and Uche Igba, (Branch Chairman) among others accused the Divisional Police Officer, Central Police Station Abakaliki and the Investigation Officer, (CPS) of conspiring and murdered Barr. Shedrack’s wife.
Others accused by the Nigeria Bar Association includes, Inspector of police, Mr. Emmanuel Lawrence and wife.
The Onueke Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association NBA said that reason for the murder can be deduced from the acts of threats coming from the police officer and wife and the manner in which he was lured out of his house for the plans to be executed.
The Leadership of the Onueke Branch of NBA said that trouble started when on the 22nd of November 2021, Barr. Shedrack Enyi’s wife, Mrs. Amechi Gloria was brutally stabbed to death in her residence at No. 1 Enyi Close Nkaliki while her husband was being unlawfully detained at the Central Police Station Abakaliki.
The group said that the unlawfully detention was on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP. Ikechukwu Okoro with the conspiracy of the Investigation Police Officer, Geoffrey Aghachi and One Inspector. Emmanuel Lawrence and his wife.
According to the petition, the NBA said that Mrs. Lawrence converted part of her rented apartment to mini poultry house, an act which constituted unbearable nuisance against other tenants in the premises.
“Acting on the persistent complaint raised against the said nuisance, Barr. Enyi who manages the property appealed to her to dismantle the poultry house made of wood and cease further rearing of the chicken in the premises”.
“Mrs. Lawrence flagrantly refused to yield to the entreaties made by Barr. Enyi which prompted him with the assistance of the caretaker of the premises and other tenants to remove the poultry wooden house”.
They alleged that Mr. Lawrence and wife started unleashing threat against the Barr. Shedrack who was later arrested and detained at CPS, following complaint made at the police station by Mr. Lawrence and wife.
NBA expressed the regret that Barr. Enyi was later granted bail and was subsequently rearrested again after he called for the transfer of the case to the police headquarters.
According to them, “our colleague again was thrown into cell on the orders of the said DPO of Central Police Station on Saturday 20th November 2021 and remained incarcerated till Monday morning, 22nd November 2021”.
The group further stated the deceased who was full of life before she was wickedly and brutally murdered. Ends.

Five Arrested By Police For Wearing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-Shirts

Five men have been arrested and arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Maiduguri, Borno State, after police allegedly found them wearing T-shirts bearing the words “Tinubu Must Go.”
The defendants were identified as Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21.
According to a First Information Report issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department, the incident occurred on September 25, 2026, near West End Roundabout in Maiduguri.
Police charged the five men with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace and thuggery under Sections 60, 78, 79 and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Court I in Maiduguri.
Their lawyer subsequently applied for bail. The court adjourned the matter until October 6, 2026, to rule on the bail application, while the substantive trial has been scheduled for October 26.
The case has drawn attention because the alleged conduct involved wearing clothing displaying a political message.
Amnesty International criticised the prosecution, describing the arrests as arbitrary and arguing that peaceful political expression is protected by fundamental human rights. The organisation called for the immediate release of the five men and urged authorities to discontinue the case.
Amnesty International also expressed concern that the prosecution could have implications for political expression and opposition activities in Borno State.
The case has generated reactions on social media, with some commentators questioning whether the display of political messages on clothing should constitute a criminal offence.
There have also been allegations that a prominent politician in Borno State may have influenced the arrests. The allegation has not been independently verified.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, were reportedly unsuccessful as of the time of filing.
The defendants remain subject to the court process, and the allegations against them have not been established in court.
