My parents’ killers shouldn’t bother seeking family’s forgiveness – MKO’s son

The late MKO, who was the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, died on July 7, 1998, while Kudirat was assassinated in Lagos on June 4, 1996 while her husband was still in detention.

In an interview Jamiu stated, “The family did not need to forgive Nigeria because it was certain individuals who killed my father and mother and not Nigeria as a country. Those individuals can go ahead to seek forgiveness from God but they shouldn’t bother seeking forgiveness from our family since they have not admitted any wrongdoing. God will provide justice to the family and the souls of my parents will rest in peace.”

Speaking on how the family had been faring since the incidents, Jamiu, who is the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Special Duties, Office of the Vice President, said, “We are doing as well as we possibly can. That kind of tragedy could have wrecked much more havoc. As a family, things can be better for us but I am sure things would have been much worse in the absence of our matriarch, Mrs Adebisi Abiola, and Mrs Doyin Abiola.

“Another strong pillar of support in our family is my father’s first child, Hon Lola Abiola, as well as the current President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and my father’s very close and reliable ally, Chief Olusegun Osoba.”

When asked if the family receives any entitlements from the Federal Government since former President Muhammadu Buhari affirmed in 2018 that Abiola indeed won the annulled election.

Jamiu noted, “Rome wasn’t built in a day. It took us almost 18 years to get the Federal Government to even recognise the significance of June 12 as a date. I am optimistic that my father will soon be getting the entitlements of other presidents and that his running mate, Amb Babagana Kingibe, will also be given the entitlements of a vice president. It was a joint victory.”
