Beyoncé has taken the lead as the most-nominated artist in Grammy history, scoring 11 nominations for her latest album, Cowboy Carter, and reaching a staggering career total of 99.

This breaks her previous tie with her husband, Jay-Z, who holds 88 Grammy nods, making the Carters the reigning Grammy power couple.

“When we talk about Grammy milestones, Beyoncé has set the gold standard,” commented the Recording Academy President in a statement.

“This achievement reflects not just her versatility but her enduring impact across genres and generations.”

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which explores the sounds and stories of Texas, is up for Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year, marking her first-ever nominations in the country and Americana categories.

Her breakout single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” has earned nominations in Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Country Song of the Year, highlighting her wide-reaching influence across pop, country, Americana, and even melodic rap performance.

If Beyoncé wins Album of the Year, she would make history once again, becoming the first Black woman in the 21st century to earn the award. Lauryn Hill, the last Black woman to claim this top prize, won in 1999 with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Meanwhile, Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has received three nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, bringing her career total to eight.

Tems leads the group of Nigerian artistes with her three nominations and joins the year’s top nominees list, with Beyoncé topping the charts with 11 nominations.

The nominations, announced on Friday, place Tems alongside fellow Nigerian nominees Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema.

The 67th Annual Grammy Awards will honour recordings and performances released during the eligibility period, which spans from 16 September 2023 to 30 August

The ceremony is set to take place on 2 February 2025 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
