Terrorists from Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a devastating assault on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in an unconfirmed number of Nigerian soldiers killed and many others reported missing.
Security sources revealed that the brutal attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Armed with a range of weapons, the terrorists stormed the FOB Sabon Gari camp at approximately 4 a.m., engaging troops in a fierce battle that raged for over two hours.
“25 Taskforce Brigade was attacked over the weekend, leading to numerous casualties. So far, we have recovered more than seven bodies,” a source told SaharaReporters.
The attackers also set fire to several buildings and military vehicles during the raid.
This incident highlights ISWAP’s increasing dominance in the Lake Chad region following the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. The group has bolstered its ranks with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters, significantly enhancing its operational capabilities.
Despite the escalating threat, the Nigerian Army remains committed to eradicating terrorism within the country.
Na govt dey kill its soldiers in North not this rag-tag terrorists, because govt dey recruit them into army as repentant terrorists and more. How can someone who killed you yesterday be repentant today and still kill you again before the end of today you said they are repentant? If they are repentant as you think, it is you who will be saved by them not the other way around.
