The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly killing his friend and former classmate following a dispute over proceeds from an internet fraud operation valued at nearly $1,000.
The arrest was confirmed in a video statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, who detailed the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Oghenegare, confessed to engaging in internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, and admitted that the disagreement with the victim arose during a fraudulent transaction.
SP Edafe said the victim, 25-year-old Courage, was a close friend and former schoolmate of the suspect.
“The suspect murdered his friend and former classmate,” Edafe said. “They were involved in internet fraud and had a dispute over a transaction, which led to a fight during which the suspect struck the victim on the head with an object resembling a small shovel or battle axe.”
During interrogation, the suspect openly admitted his involvement in online fraud, describing himself as an internet fraudster. He explained that the victim had introduced a scheme expected to yield nearly $1,000 but later refused to share access details, effectively excluding him from the proceeds.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation. The suspect told investigators that he kept the weapon at home for self-defence and later disposed of it while attempting to evade arrest.
SP Edafe confirmed that police operatives are still searching for the weapon allegedly used in the attack.
Further investigations revealed that both the suspect and the deceased were members of a secret cult group known as Black Axe, with the victim allegedly known by the alias “Vikings.” When asked what he gained from cultism, the suspect reportedly responded: “Nothing.”
The Delta State Police Command said investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.
