Viral video: No Nigerian has right to retaliate if a policeman slaps him – PPRO

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has said that no Nigerian has the right to confront policemen or retaliate even if the policeman slaps him/her ‘civilian’.
Speaking through his Twitter account, the Force PRO advised any such victim of Police brutality to rather file a complaint with the law enforcement agency.

He was reacting to a viral video of a man dragging a rifle with a policeman during a heated argument and suspicious molestation over his phone.

Adejobi further stated that if a person assault’s police personnel in uniform, it would be seen as ‘an act of disrespect to Nigeria.’

His words, “Even if a policeman on uniform slaps a civilian, the civilian has no right to retaliate. More so, if he’s on uniform, it’s an act of disrespect to Nigeria to beat an officer on uniform.

“The disrespect is not to the policeman but to our nation and it’s a crime as enshrined in our criminal laws

“So, it’s not a case of what the policeman did that led to it, but the reaction of the civilians who actually assaulted the police.

“If police assault a civilian, you report and actions will be taken to rebuke him, not to take the law into your hands.” (sic)

“Let alone, it’s a matter of checking of phones, which can be easily reported and addressed. Now they are kept in our 5-star hotel in Lagos and will be in court on Monday.

“Are you going to visit them or send them food, or appear in court to defend them? Don’t support what is bad,  ok”

He stated that contrary to an online publication, there was no fatality in the attack.

Anyanwu added that police operatives who sustained injuries in the attack were responding to treatment in a hospital.

“On Thursday, a police patrol team attached to Ezza North Divisional Headquarters, was ambushed by a gang of hoodlums who shot sporadically at the team.

  • “We don’t kill,” IPOB says it has no hand in the death of Ebonyi-born Muslim cleric

“We don’t kill,” IPOB says it has no hand in the death of Ebonyi-born Muslim cleric

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied involvement in the recent killing of an Islamic cleric in Ebonyi State.
A Muslim cleric, who hails from Ebonyi State and converted to the Muslim faith, Sheikh Ibrahim Iyiorji, was recently murdered in the state by unidentified gunmen.Speculations were that the IPOB might be responsible for the murder, but the group said killing Muslims was not part of its mandate.

In a press release by the spokesperson of the group, Mr Emma Powerful, he said killing a Muslim will add nothing to its quest for the Biafra Republic.

Part of the release read: “IPOB does not engage in such barbaric killings and cannot be part of such heinous crime against humanity. IPOB does not kill flies talk of human beings and an Igbo man for that matter, irrespective of his religious belief.“Important questions to ask are: why will IPOB kill this Igbo Islamic cleric? Is he a threat to Biafra movement? How many of our known enemies have we killed?”

The group stated that Nigerian security agencies were fond of stage-managing confessions from criminals with the hope of indicting them.

They added that criminals tagged as unknown gunmen were not part of IPOB, stating that their activities are in the open and cannot be described as unknown.

“Some unscrupulous elements and petty thieves are constantly stage-managed by security agents to lie against IPOB members and ESN operatives.

“IPOB and ESN never killed any Army officer, Police officer, or DSS agent despite all provocations in the name of unknown gunmen since we started pursuing Biafra freedom.

“IPOB and ESN are not hiding its activities and cannot be called unknown gunmen because we are not faceless nor cowards. We are fearless before our enemies.”

ICPC uncovers N49.9bn ‘ghost’ workers’ salaries

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and other related offences on Thursday opened up that the N13.59trillion 2021 budget was padded by the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, with duplicated projects worth N300b.
The ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, during an interface with the Senate Committee on Finance, also disclosed that projects duplication worth N100billion were also inserted into the N17.12 trillion 2022 budget by some MDAs asides the N49.9b tracked as salary for ghost workers between January and June this year.

Owasanoye explained that the N300billion duplicated projects in the 2021 budget and N100 billion in the 2022 budget were tracked through scrutinisation carried out on approved projects for the various MDAs.

The ICPC boss stated, ” N300billion would have been wasted by the Federal government on duplicated projects inserted into the 2021 budget and N100billion for same purpose in the current fiscal year if not tracked and intercepted by ICPC.”

” The same preemptive move, saved the country from spending N49.9billion for salaries of ghost workers put on fictitious payroll by the fraudulent MDAs between January and June this year.”

Owasanoye added that the names MDAs involved in projects duplications running into intercepted billions of Naira and fictitious payrolls, are available and will be forwarded to the committee.

“The good thing about the preemptive moves made by us is that monies for the fraudulent acts were prevented from being released to the affected MDAs and it is gratifying that the Finance Ministry and Accountant General Office cooperated with us,” he said.

He advised relevant committees of the National Assembly to be on the lookout for such project duplication in the proposed N19.76trillion 2023 budget.

He added, “From our own end, detection of such projects is done by verifying their locations and names, upon which we tell the appropriate authorities not to release wrongly budgeted monies for them.”

The chairman, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, who was delighted by the progress on behalf of the committee said the operational cost of the agency will be increased from N1.8billion.

“Your operational cost which is N1.8billion will be increased as the required impetus for more proactive measures against corrupt practices across the various MDAs.”
