At least one villager was killed Friday by armed militia who invaded the disputed Centenary City to forcefully stop the people from working on the Land.

The armed men who stormed the Centenary City in a Sienna Bus were reportedly in the company of some policemen when the incident happened.

Eye witness report said some villagers from Obeagu were working at the Community project site when the armed militia arrived ordering them to leave immediately.

The armed militia who wore charms reportedly started shooting to scare the villagers, just as they were said to have used matchetes on their victims.

One Onyedka Chukwu Ede who was stabbed in the abdomen died before he could receive medical attention.

The deceased is a native of Ndinwuba village, Obeagu Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area.

A Community leader who spoke to our reporter alleged that “the attack was carried out by armed militia, agents of Private Estates International West Africa, PEIWA,” their opponents in the Land tussle.

The latest attack is coming few days after the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, visited to mark buildings and structures for demolition.

The Enugu State House of Assembly had waded into the matter recommending the best route to peace in a unanimously adopted resolution which the community accepted awaiting implementation.

The use of violence, harassment and intimidation in the Centenary Land has continued despite several cases subsisting in court.
