The President General of Idima Edda Community, Comrade Nkama Okoro Agha has said that the community lost six people including a pregnant woman and her little child who were brutally murdered and valuable properties worth millions of Naira destroyed following an attack by warlords suspected to have come from Amasiri community in Afikpo local government area of the State.
The Community expressed sadness over the constant attack and killing of their people by suspected warlords from Amasiri.
Comrade Agha made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the recent killings and destruction of properties in the community.
He noted that one of the 6 victims of the alleged Amasiri’s attack against the Okporojo people hailed from Afikpo, identified as Abagha Chukwu from Ukpa in Afikpo LGA, but was a resident of Okporojo till his untimely death.
The President General who condemned the ugly act alleged that the attack was not the first, saying that the Amasiri people had invaded Okporojo and killed innocent citizens, including the abduction of farmers in their farms on 6th February 2023.
He appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru to urgently intervene to prevent further killings and bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to book.
He equally appealed to the governor to take urgent action over the land dispute between the people of Ndukwe community, Amasiri in Afikpo LGA and Okporojo Idima in Edda LGA of Ebonyi State, to bring lasting peace in the area.
“We the people of Okporojo in Idima Autonomous Community in Edda LGA of Ebonyi State totally condemned this unfortunate attack launched by the Amasiri against our people.
“This attack which consumed the lives of our people, the Okporojo innocent citizens including a pregnant woman and her little child, and even a resident in our community who came from Ukpa in Afikpo LGA were murdered by the Amasiri warlords last Saturday 5th April 2025.
“As this seemed to be not enough, the Amasiri militias have continued to launch attacks, destroying property worth millions of Naira in the Okporojo community just because of the land dispute.
“Remember that on the 6th of February 2023, the people of Amasiri invaded Okporojo and abducted our harmless people including Oko Agwu Ama, Dick Ama Oduko, and David Oko Arusi who were working and searching for their green pastures in their farms and up till date, we have not seen them returned home, we don’t know whether they are still alive or dead.”
“After the abduction, the Amasiri militias came to Okporojo Edda village, started destroying our properties and even beheaded one Chima Orji in our village. The said Chima Orji was buried without his head after his death as a result of the unfortunate invasion launched by the Amasiri world lords against our people.
Meanwhile, Youth of Amasiri Community have petitioned the Ebonyi State Governor over what they described as unlawful military invasion of the community following the communal attack between them and Okporojo in Edda people.
The youths alleged that military personnels are patrolling the community and stopping members of the community from going about their normal business.
“We, the youths of Amasiri, write to you with heavy hearts and a deep sense of urgency over the ongoing crisis between Amasiri and the Edda people. While we appreciate the government’s efforts to restore peace, we are alarmed by the conduct of soldiers deployed to our community, which has escalated fear and suffering among innocent residents.
“Reports reaching us indicate that soldiers are currently moving through Amasiri, chasing everyone indoors, and forcefully shutting down all business activities.
“This has brought our daily lives to a standstill, inflicting hardship on our people who depend on their daily earnings for survival.
“This act of brutality is unacceptable and has heightened tension in our community. We fear that if this situation is not urgently addressed, it may lead to further loss of lives and properties.
The youths called on the State Government to Immediately call the soldiers to order and ensure the protection of lives and properties in Amasiri, as many residents now live in fear.
“We also call on the State Government to facilitate a swift and lasting resolution to the conflict between Ndukwe community and the Edda people to prevent further escalation. Ends.
