The deceased, Chimaobi, in his twenties, had reportedly been electrocuted while tampering with high-tension electricity cables in Abayi Okorator, where his corpse was held pending burial.
Trouble ensued when youths from his community went to retrieve his body and found that his genitalia were missing from the remains presented by the attendants, who subsequently attempted to flee but were apprehended.
Tensions escalated as the deceased’s relatives rushed to remove his body for immediate burial or to relocate it elsewhere, while the youths threatened to destroy the mortuary. A witness informed our correspondent that prompt police intervention in Eastern Ngwa saved the mortuary attendants, who were taken into custody.
A senior police official in the region stated that the situation was under control, but did not elaborate further on the matter.
