The newly elected Deputy National Chairman (South) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Benjamin Obiora Nwoye, has officially assumed office at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, pledging to foster healing and genuine reconciliation within the party across the southern region.
Nwoye arrived at the secretariat at about 11:30 a.m., shortly after appearing on a Channels Television political programme in Asokoro, Abuja. He was accompanied by a large crowd of supporters who sang victory songs as they ushered him into his office located on the first floor, Wing B of the APC National Headquarters.
The former elected chairman and immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Enugu State was elected into the position during the party’s 8th National Convention held last Saturday at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Addressing party members and supporters at the conference room, Nwoye expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received before and after the convention. He assured of an inclusive leadership style that would accommodate all party members.
“We are going to embrace an inclusive, not exclusive, style of leadership. There will be no room for division under my watch,” he said.
He added, “I will not take the trust and confidence reposed in me for granted. The campaign is over. We must embrace both those who supported us and those who did not. Politics should not breed grudges. Let us come together in unity and see this victory as an act of God.”
Nwoye takes over from Chief Emma Enukwu, also from Enugu State, who served the party at the National Secretariat for 13 years in various capacities.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the enabling environment for a peaceful and successful national convention, describing him as a visionary leader committed to repositioning Nigeria’s economy.
“As loyal party members, we will do everything possible to ensure the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027,” Nwoye stated.
He also acknowledged the role of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, in mobilising delegates for the convention, noting that he demonstrated effective leadership within the state chapter of the party.
Reiterating his commitment, Nwoye said, “This is the time for healing and total reconciliation. We will work tirelessly to reposition our great party in Southern Nigeria for greater success.”
“Together, we shall march forward—united, focused, and determined to secure victory for Mr. President and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections. That is our responsibility.”
Other APC stakeholders who spoke at the event included the South East Women Leader, Dr. Mrs. Oby Ajih; former Federal Character Commissioner representing Enugu State, Ambassador Ginika Williams Tor; Chief of Staff to Dr. Nwoye, Hon. Timothy Amah; among others.
