Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered another collapse, the second system failure recorded in 2026, throwing large parts of the country into darkness.
The Nigeria National Grid confirmed the incident on Tuesday in a brief post on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, which read: “GRID COLLAPSE.”
Further details from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that electricity load allocation to all 11 distribution companies (DisCos) dropped to zero megawatts at exactly 10:54 a.m.
Data shared by the Nigeria National Grid (@NationalGridNg) indicated that the affected DisCos as of 10:54 a.m. on January 27, 2026, were Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola.
This confirms that all the listed DisCos were completely without power at the time of the system collapse.
Authorities have, however, assured the public that efforts are ongoing to restore electricity supply nationwide.
