Ivo Council Boss Appeals For More Security Checkpoints To Curb Insecurity

The Chairman, Ivo local government area of Ebonyi State, Chief Emmanuel Ajah has appealed to the State Police Commissioner, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya for the establishment of more police checkpoints at strategic locations in the LGA to forestall further insecurity in the area.

Chief Ajah made the appeal during a
security meeting held today at the council headquarters to address the recent security challenges in the council area.

Chief Ajah maintained that with more police checkpoints established at the strategic points, the issue of insecurity would be reduced to it’s minimum adding that the his administration is poised to ensure the security of lives and properties of every citizen of the council area.

On the recent land dispute between Ogwor and Umubor communities, the council boss urged the CP to assist in restoring peace to the troubled area.

Chief Ajah also constituted a committee headed by the leader of Ivo Legislative Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Anyim, and the councillors of Ndiokoroukwu and Amagu Wards to address the tensions between Ndiokoroukwu and Ihie Autonomous communities with a charge for them to act impartially to resolve the situation promptly.

Reacting, CP Uche-Anya assured the people of her readiness to address all the security challenges raised adding that conflict has never solved any problems.

“I have noted your concerns and I want to assure you that all the issues will be looked into and addressed. Let me remind you that throughout history and in all religions by it Christianity, Islam, African Traditional beliefs, all advocates for peace. I urge you all to embrace peace, as peace is the key to development and well-being.

She disclosed that the State Governor Francis Nwifuru frowns at any form of conflict within the state and urged the community to support the police, as security is a collective responsibility of everyone. There should be openness in all your activities.

Mr. Nweni Ogbonna, the Community Chairman of Amaez expressed concern over the security situation in the community and requested the assistance of the Police Commissioner and that of the council chairman in restoring normalcy to the area.

He also called for an engagement with the Abia State government regarding the boundary disputes between Amaeze community and Lokpanta in Abia State which he said is the root cause of insecurity in the area.
