Adrian Clews, CEO of Hinckley E-Waste Recycling Ltd, has unveiled plans for Nigeria’s inaugural lithium battery recycling plant in Ogun State. This $5 million initiative underscores the UK’s commitment to tackling electronic waste in Africa. Clews highlighted that Nigeria is the second-largest producer of electronic waste on the continent, trailing only South Africa.
The new plant aims to address the mounting e-waste issue by recycling lithium batteries, which are a significant component of electronic waste. The facility will not only help manage the growing environmental challenge but also create employment opportunities and promote sustainable practices in Nigeria.
This investment aligns with global efforts to enhance recycling technologies and reduce the ecological impact of electronic waste. By setting up this plant, Nigeria will take a pivotal step towards improving its waste management infrastructure, supporting a greener future, and establishing itself as a leader in e-waste recycling in Africa.
Clews’ announcement marks a milestone in Nigeria’s environmental and economic landscape, reflecting a growing awareness and response to the challenges posed by electronic waste.
