The council of Traditional Rulers in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State, have passed a vote of no confidence on the incumbent local government Chairman, Hon. Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo, saying he is not fit to hold any political office.
The Monarchs, in a communique issued at the end of their meeting on the platform of Awgu Traditional Rulers’ Council, and made available to newsmen Thursday in Enugu, accused the Council boss of undermining them, “and has failed woefully in discharging his duties to the expectation of the people of the locality.”
Our Correspondent reports that the document which was signed by their Chairman, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Cyprian Nevobasi, the traditional ruler of Mmaku, Autonomous Community, and Secretary, Retired Wing Commander J. Okeke, stated thus: “we, the traditional rulers in Awgu local government area of Enugu state have lost total confidence in the LGA Chairman, Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after submitting the communique to the Commissioner for Rural development and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Okey Ogbodo for onward submission to the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, Igwe Nevobasi, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues present at the media briefing insisted that there is no going back on their decision.
According to them, “the Traditional Rulers after careful deliberations on their stand with the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Council came up with the following communique
“That the Chairman Awgu Local Government Council Hon Pedro Nwankwo never took the Traditional Rulers of Awgu Local Government serious.
The Royal fathers equally alleged that the Council boss rebuffed and ignored all attempts made by them to meet with him, saying that none of the letters written to him for a meeting was replied or honoured.
“That all the promises he made to the Royal Fathers, none was fulfilled. He insults the Royal Fathers at will.
“That he publicly announced that he gives the Royal Fathers #1.7m for their monthly meetings, but in reality he gives #700,000 only.
The Monarchs, added that when the Commissioner for Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters, Deacon Okey Ogbodo visited Awgu, Hon Pedro Nwankwo read out a catalogue of unverifiable projects executed by him.
” We the Traditional Rulers are not aware of such projects he claimed that he executed because the projects cannot be verified.
“Based on these, we the Traditional Rulers of Awgu LGA unanimously denounce Hon. Pedro Nwankwo and pass a vote of no confidence in him.
“We therefore conclude that he is not fit to hold any political post whether elected or appointed in Enugu State in particular and Nigeria at large.
The Traditional rulers posited that “We hereby ask the State Government not to deal with him in any issue that concerns Awgu LGA Traditional Rulers. All issues that concern Awgu LGA Traditional Rulers should be directed to the Deputy Chairman.
Reacting, the Chairman Hon Pedro Nwankwo told everydaynewsngr.net that he has settled with his traditional rulers.
He said; “I have settled my differences with my traditional rulers..they are my Royal fathers. So we have sorted everything out..it shouldn’t be a news headline anymore.”
