The police has corrected the impression and report of an alleged kidnap of a couple along Nwafor Orizu Street explaining that what happened was a carjack.
In a statement made available to EverydayNewsngr.net the police said they are on the trail of the armed hoodlums who, on September 30, 2023, at about 9.30 p.m., carjacked a Mazda CX9 car along Bisalla Road, Enugu.
“The male lone-driver was rescued at Ozalla, Nkanu West LGA, after an intense manhunt operation launched by Police Operatives of the Command, upon receipt of information on the incident. The victim has been reunited with his family.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, *CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc(+)*, has directed the Operatives to ensure that the hoodlums are fished out and the vehicle they escaped with recovered.”
It was earlier reported that yet to be identified couple were Saturday night whisked away by kidnappers.
The gunmen who operated in a Sienna bus reportedly blocked the couple’s vehicle and abducted them.
The incident happened at about 9:30pm Saturday night in front of Metropol Hotel.
The hoodlums were said to have shot severally to scare residents before disappearing with their victim’s vehicle
The Sienna which is suspected to be a stolen vehicle was left steaming in the middle of the road until the police arrived.
The police through it’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO Daniel Ndukwe DSP noted that no couple was attacked.
“The victim drove alone and has been rescued.,” he added.
