The vision of reinvigorating Enugu’s leading status as the historic capital of the South East geo-political zone of Nigeria has been part of the development efforts of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Part of such projects was the construction of a 600-seat state-of-the-art Banquet Hall with basement offices, meeting rooms and retaining walls, among other facilities within the premises of the remodelled Old Government Lodge, GRA, Enugu.
Visiting Igbo leaders and guests, including journalists, who attended the recent Imeobi meeting of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo with governors of the South East states where shocked with the turnaround in the Old Government Lodge.
The event was the formal inauguration of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu as the New President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Those who were conversant with the environment could not believe it was the same dilapidated and abandoned Government facility.
The Lodge was last used by former Governor Sullivan Chime as a makeshift arrangement before the completion of the Governor’s lodge within the Enugu Government House.
Since then the place appeared to have been abandoned until the entire South East was let into the New World created by the Enugu Humble Lion, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Also within the premises are the remodeled Old Government Lodge with a newly constructed annex; 10 units of Executive Guest Houses and 24 units of Guest Flats with a Dining Hall, for routine guests of the state government; a standard Lawn Tennis Court for physical exercise, fitted with a pavilion for spectators and lighting facilities; among other completed facilities.
