Community Policing: Police orders new recruits posted to their LGA’s

The Nigerian Police has disclosed that the newly recruited constables trained in the Oji-River Police College, Enugu will be deployed to their various local governments of origin.

The commandant of the Police College, CP Okon O. Effiong said this is “pursuant to the IGP’s avowed will to ensure the realisation and effectiveness of Mr President’s effort at community policing.”

CP Okon who spoke at the passing out parade ceremony of 2020 recruit constables intake held on the 6th of July, 2022 at the Oji River Police College field.

The commandant also said that the 511 new recruits were drawn from Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi States. Anambra has 184 (116 males and 68 females), Ebonyi 138 (88 males and 50 females) while Enugu has 189 (113 males and 76 females).

He further stated that the new recruits are ready for the job because “In the course of the training, they were exposed to training in basic Professional/Police duties, Liberal and Legal studies, Drills Operational combat crafts and musketry.

“They were also subjected to a high level of moral trainings as well as tenets of Democratic community policing, rule of law and fundamental human rights.

“The Recruit constables were equally exposed to mind-burgling complexities of crime in the society and the need for a good assessment of situations before engagement. I make bold or say they have been successfully trained both in character and learning to meet the expectations of the citizenry and the national yearning for enhanced police service delivery in the face of current and emerging threats to national security.”

The college Boss also added that “4 recruits were discharged from the College for various offences that bothered on misconduct while one was discharged on health ground. Furthermore, 5 police constables are to be retarded for failing to meet the minimum tolerable college code.”

He also attributed the success of the training to the “Ingenuity and magnanimity of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba” and he “has been unrelenting in pulling the college out of the woods by massively intervening in infrastructural and facilities upgrade.”

In his remark, the IGP Usman who was represented by DIG in charge of Research and Planning, John Amadi, told the graduating recruits that they’re “coming into a reformed Police Force that’s experiencing an ethical rebirth and that is increasingly well-equipped, well motivated and appropriately oriented and positioned to take the war against crimes to the fortress of criminal elements that are threatening our communal values for peace, security and liberty.”

The DIG who represents the South East in the Police Force while Congratulating the new intakes admonished them to consider themselves lucky to have been found worthy in character, learning physical and mental fitness to serve Nigeria and warned them that no act of indiscipline will be condoned.

The highpoints of the ceremony was Demonstration parade, presentation of awards to deserving recruits in various categories. A female, Mercy Chukwuani won the overall best graduating recruit and was also presented with the Baton of Honour by the DIG.

Commissioners of Police, Heads of other security agencies, representatives of local government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers and town union leaders.
