So many things no doubt, are going through the mind’s of Enugu Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries draw nearer.
With the long list of aspirants for the various politcial positions up for contest in the 2023 general elections, the Enugu White Lion definitely has very difficult decisions to make.
Such decisions include choosing between his Deputy Mrs Cecelia Ezillo and his Chief of Staff Dr. Festus Uzor for the Ezeagu/Udi federal constituency.
Also, for the the Enugu East Senatorial position, the Governor has to chose between former governor, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani and former Chief of Staff and seasoned administrator, Chief (Mrs) Ifeoma Nwobodo.
This is just one out of various other positions including the Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency House of Reps position.
Of-course, the issue of who becomes his successor as the next governor of Enugu State is another very difficult decision the governor has to make.
The Nsukka/Igboeze South Reps position is also raging, as PAT ASADU continues to push for a return for the fifth time while former State PDP Chairman Engr. Vita Abba lurks around the corner insisting it’s the turn of Nsukka people.
The list of conflicting interests are as long as the various politcial positions in the state.
The good and encouraging thing is that the governor is in charge. And with the successful and peaceful conclusion of the 3-man delegate ward election, it is time of decision.
While one is not expected to make these decisions for the governor, some truths must be told and facts laid bare.
Ifeoma Nwobodo
A seasoned Adminstrator who played prominent roles in the successful administration of former Governor Sullivan Chime, Nwobodo is one aspirant that deserve top consideration. Yet, it’s a tough one coming against Senator Nnamani for the Senatorial position, but politcial observers believe she should have something by the time the party primaries are done and dusted.
She has paid her dues and would have gone for an elective position after the first four years of the Chime Administration if not for her invaluable services which the then governor was not ready to lose.
Her role in the 2015 guber election were also remarkable just as she has patiently waited for her turn, which is now ripe.
The Enugu Governor is a master of the game and cannot make a mistake here.
Speaker, Edward Ubosi
It was a surprise that the speaker did not purchase the Governoship nomination form. Observers believe he must have had a close talk with the governor. Yet, the speaker deserves a higher position by the time it’s all settled.
A humble politician, the speaker has been faithful, loyal and an outstanding team player who should be taking a step further than the House of Assembly.
Nothing is sealed even with the end of purchase of form. Ugwuanyi as the leader of the party in the South East and he knows what to do. And by the time discussions and dialogues commence over the party tickets, observers expect a better position for the Enugu Speaker.
Uchenna Nwobodo
The man who performed magic in three months as an acting Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Nwobodo wasn’t greedy to go for re-election as Council Chairman. He opted out because of his ambition to go for House of Reps. He is focused. He has direction, He has never failed or found wanting in previous positions.
A grassroots mobilizer, Nwobodo has worked for the party and shown loyalty to the authorities. A go-getter, he appears the must suitable among all the aspirants for the Nkanu East/West Constituency.
