The Enugu Golf Club CE alive May 1st when Enugu State Commissioner Prince Emeka Mamah sponsored a classical golf tournament to mark his 50th birthday as well as the birthday of his lovely wife.
It was an outstanding even preceded by a lavishly sponsored Gala-night where food and drinks flowed to the satisfaction of all guests.

One of the professional players in the Club, Monday Ugiagbe, did not mince words when he described the tournament as outstanding.
Hear him; “We have not seen such before; the large turnout we’ve never seen as well. The prizes also were meant for major tournament prizes; we were surprised it’s a birthday tournament that such prizes were on parade.”
The prices on parade included Golf bags, golf travelling kits, generators, trophies, Fridges, gas cookers, split unit Air conditioners among others.
Dr. Humphrey Obiefule, a member of the Enugu Golf Club, emerged the overall winner of the one-day golf tournament played over over 18-holes.
Captain of the Enugu Golf Club Dr. Kene Madu said the tournament was sponsored by Prince Emeka Mamah for golfers in the South East and South+South.
“We had players from Abakaliki, Port Harcourt and a few other places.’
He disclosed that Dr. Obiefule returned a net score of 66 to win the category for men and the overall star price while Mrs Ezinne Odionyemma won the ladies category.
“We also had veteran players who are above 60; that category was won by Chief Onyechi Ofala Okafor.”
He said the tournament which coincided with the first mug after his election was sponsored by Prince Mamah as part of efforts to foster the development of golf in the State.
Mamah who is also Enugu State Commissioner for Rural Development said he decided to use the competition to mark his 50th birthday and the birthday of his wife.
“This is the first competition of our Captain after our election. It is called the first mug; first competition; it’s happening with the celebration of my birthday and that of my wife.
” I took it upon myself to sponsor this event today and we had some prices ranging from category two to category four golf.
Highlight of the event was a Lebanese, a registered member of the club who won the longest drive which attracted a golf bag for him.
Ikem Okoye, an Enugu golfer who took part in the competition commended the organization and attendance expressing gratitude to Prince Mamah for sponsorship.
He described Prince Mamah as a philanthropist who has always identified with developments in all spheres of human endeavor.
He expressed optimism that he would encourage and support more tournaments in future.
