A group of people from Ishi-ozalla Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have disassociated themselves from the purported election of a traditional ruler in the Community.
The group alleged that the traditional ruler was selected by a few individuals, describing it as unlawful.
They have consequently petitioned security agencies in the State, Enugu State House of Assembly, Office of the Attorney General of the State, Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters among other relevant agencies and Ministries.
Addressing newsmen after a recent protest the Secretary of Edeaniagu Village, Mr Christian Uzochukwu expressed surprised that some government functionaries were part of the deceptive plan to impose an unpopular person on the community as their traditional ruler, regardless of the public out cry and rising insecurity in the area.
Lamenting the ostracization of over five villages before the purported election, Mr. Uzochukwu Said they are committed to an all inclusive election as instructed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and urged the people to remain calm.
Also, Mr C J Okereke said the election and recognition of any person as the traditional ruler of Ishi-ozalla was null and void as the matter is in court and all the parties duly served.
He expressed hope that the decision of the court on the said election and recognition might be different noting that circumventing the decision of the court is a big offense in law.
Also speaking another indigene of the Community, Pastor Luke Eze, wondered why the government excluded the town Union President of Ishi-ozalla in the whole process insisting that they will not recognize some one that was imposed on them.
It could be recalled that Ishi-ozalla Community had been in crisis over intimidation and ostracization of some people from scheme of things.
Chief Sylvanus Okereke was recently elected Igwe by a faction of the Community and was recognized by the State Government.
