Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Monday officially dissolved his cabinet, ending weeks of uncertainty over the fate of his political appointees.
At a final executive council meeting, the governor announced the dissolution and gave indications of a possible reconstitution of a new cabinet.
The former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, who previously served under ex-governor Willie Obiano and spent four years in Soludo’s administration, has been dropped.
In his place, the former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, has been appointed as the new SSG.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, the governor confirmed the appointment:
“Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has approved the appointment of Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake as the new Secretary to the State Government of Anambra State.
Chiamaka Nnake, MBA, FCCA, is from Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State and is a seasoned finance and public sector professional with over 13 years of experience spanning finance, strategy development, and economic planning.”
It would be recalled that shortly after his second-term inauguration last week, Soludo directed all political appointees to submit their handover notes to the most senior civil servant or permanent secretary in their respective ministries.
At the meeting, the governor expressed appreciation to members of the outgoing executive council and apologised for any misunderstandings that may have arisen during their service. He made special mention of the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okeoma, commending his diligence and contributions over the past four years.
Soludo noted that Anambra State witnessed significant socio-economic transformation during the period and assured that his second term would deliver even greater development, stating that “Anambra has not seen anything yet.”
The governor also presented commendation letters to the outgoing appointees, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
As part of ongoing restructuring, Soludo disclosed that some agencies, including the Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA), may be scrapped, with waste management responsibilities devolved to the 21 local government councils.
Additionally, the position of Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, has been declared vacant.
The Managing Director of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Ozo Greg Ezeilo, has also been relieved of his position, leaving the office currently vacant.
Meanwhile, details of the new cabinet are yet to be made public. A source at the Government House, Awka—popularly known as the Light House—hinted that the list is being closely guarded, with possible announcements expected before the end of Monday.
If you want, I can tighten it further for newspaper headline style or make it more punchy for online publication.
