A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Ebonyi State chapter, Mrs Uchechi Ogbuefi has described as unfortunate and regrettable the several verbal attacks against Senator Natasha Agboti-Uduaghan by the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi.

Mrs. Ogbuefi expressed sadness over the involvement of Senator Nwebonyi in the sexual harassment accusation against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio noting that the outburst of Senator Nwebonyi has clearly shown his hatred, bitterness and unaccommodating attitude of women in Nigeria Politics.

“First we wondered why he took it up on himself to be the only Senator consistently defending the Senate President. I wouldn’t know why he has been crying more than the bereaved. Who made him the spokesperson of the Senate President is what we are yet to ascertain.

Mrs. Ogbuefi in an statement signed by her and made available to journalists maintained that Senator Nwebonyi has since the episode stated has said unprintable things against Senator Natasha adding that it is high time the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone calls him to order.

“It is the duty of the accused to clear his name and not that of the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate to do for him. I have watched with keen interest the outburst of Senator Nwebonyi against Senator Natasha and i begin to wonder his involvement in the matter.

“First it was his appearance in Arise television and now his numerous press statement not just only defending the Senate President but also calling out Senator Natasha.

“He has taken it as a sole responsibility to go all out to speak on the matter even when other South East Senators are still silent on the matter. The matter is already in court and the Deputy Chief Whip is moving from one television station to another defending the Senate President and using derogatory words against Senator Natasha.

“To the best of my knowledge, that’s not why he was sent to the Senate. He has abandoned his legislative duties and is now following the Senate President from one state to another which is of no benefit to the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone.

“The harassment, intimidation and brutalization aged petty Women traders suffered in the hands of Nwebonyi when he served as Commissioner for capital territory is still fresh in our memories. The way and manner he smashed and destroyed their goods caused many of the women severe pain and agony. So we are not surprised his disdain for the opposite sex.

His activities as a party chairman, commissioner and now Senator is not something to be desired. He has exhibited a high level of unprofessional conduct undeserving of a Senator and legal practitioner.

“Senator Nwebonyi should settle down and carry out his legislative functions and stop playing the errand boy to the Senate President. His actions is a pure indication that he is not prepared for the task of legislation at the apex chambers.

“Those who were not ready and prepared for elective positions, when they get there, they tends to forget why they are there and start chasing shadows.

“In the last couple of weeks that the issue of Akpabio and Natasha came up, the Senator Representing Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone has continued to comment on the matter as if he is directly involved.

He should allow the court to do justice to the matter and refrain from playing the spokesperson of the Senate President. For crying out loud, he was elected the same way Akpabio was elected. He is a principal officer just like Akpabio, so he should stop seeing himself less a Senator to Akpabio. He is bringing embarrassment to the people of Ebonyi State.

“All he has been doing is to cast aspersions on Senator Natasha even when the court is yet to adjudicate on the matter.

He should not drag the South East into the matter. Let those involved address the matter while he face his legislative duties for the betterment of the people he represents. Ends.
