Ebonyi Speaker, 15 sacked Lawmakers not APC members, Legacy members alledge
…Calls For Direct Primaries Election
Foundation Members of the All Progressives Congress APC Ebonyi State under the auspices of APC Legacy members yesterday insisted that the Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Francis Nwifuru and 15 Sacked State lawmakers are not yet registered members of the party in the State.
Briefing Journalist yesterday in Abakaliki, the leader of the group and a Chieftain of the party, Alhaji Haroun Ajah said that Hon Nwifuru and the 15 other lawmakers deposed on oath that they are not members of APC and that they have not defected to the APC.
Alhaji Ajah alledged that there is an ongoing attempts by the State Governor, Chief David Umahi to smuggle the names of the 16 members of the State House of Assembly into the membership register few days after purchasing expression of interest and nominations forms for them.
He noted that on April 26, 2022 expression of interest and nomination forms were purchased for the lawmakers. “But, in the process of filling the forms, it was discovered that the lawmakers were not properly registered as members of APC”.
“It is obvious that these nefarious plans to make them candidates of our party when they are not properly registered members of APC would be enough reason for the court to invalidate APC’s victories as was the case in Zamfara State in 2019”.
“For a better understanding of this attempt to perfect an irregular process, it should be noted that after the Federal High Court sacked the 16 members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, they filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal”.
“It might interest the National leadership to note that in the affidavit of facts sworn to by the lawmakers, they denied membership of APC in one breadth and in another agreed that they decamped from PDP”.
He stated that, this is contained in their affidavit of fact before the Court of Appeal in the suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/1041/2021 (PDP Vs INEC & 21 ORS). We plead with the National Leadership of our great party to use the Ebonyi State situation to show that APC is not the heaven for irresponsible politicians.
He said that the foundation Members have been trying to make the governor see reasons and imbibe democratic ethos in the running of APC in the State, but Governor Umahi has continued to shun entreaties to follow the path of civility and fairness.
Also Speakering, the pioneer State Chairman of the party, Chief Ben Nwobashi called for direct primaries insisting that only direct primaries will save the party from Imposition.
When contacted, the State Chairman of the party in the State, Chief Stanley Emegha dismissed the allegation adding that there is no truth in the statement.
He said that he will not react to statements credited to people who are bent on destroying the party adding that the party will not be distracted by such statements. Ends.
