The Governor of Enugu State, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has called for peace among feuding traditional rulers in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Governor Ugwuanyi’s intervention became necessary following disagreements within the ranks of the local government traditional rulers council led by Igwe Godwin Madu, over the formation of a support group in favour of the governor.

Igwe Godwin Madu was said to have formed a support group, Gburugburu Undiluted Movement, without consulting majority of the traditional rulers. It was learnt that the traditional rulers, angered by the action of their chairman formed a parallel traditional rulers council.

During a peace meeting attended by the governor, some traditional rulers complained that as their chairman, Igwe Mbaogu did not carry them along when with igwe chima Achiekwelu, he formed Gburugburu Undiluted Movement.

The governor in reaffirming, Igwe Godwin Madu as the chairman of Oji River traditional rulers council asked him to meet with other traditional rulers in Oji River LGA and to allow those who want to join the support group to join. The governor also asked Igwe Godwin Madu to also do same with the stakeholders and allow those who want to join to do so.

He reiterated that the position of Chairmen of local government forum of traditional rulers is by appointment by the governor and not by election or by any other means. That at his pleasure he might decide to change all of them.

Ugwuanyi sued for peaceful coexistence among the traditional rulers and enjoined them to always get involved in activities that will bring development, peace and unity in their respective autonomous communities, Oji River LGA and indeed Enugu State.
