The chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Enugu State Chapter, Comrade Ebuka Bartholomew Okoh has been impeached and suspended over misappropriation of funds amounting to N20million, abuse of office as well as attacks on governor Mbah’s administration.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting in Enugu, the deputy chairman, Comrade Wealth Opu and the Secretary-General, Comrade Johnson Ossai, alleged that Comrade Okoh had severally on different fora denied receiving subvention from the state government which was later confirmed to be a fallacy.
They pointed out that in a statement of account printed from the United Bank of Africa, UBA, it was observed that the state government has been subventing the Council between 500,000 and 1.5 million Naira since the account was opened on January 2024 till date.
Comrade Opu and Ossai also alleged that Okoh went to the Chief of Staff, Government House, Enugu and gave him another account details, saying the council’s account was faulty.
According to them, “it was discovered that the impeached and suspended chairman blocked other signatories to the council’s account from receiving alerts, and also forged signatures to be able to withdraw money from the account at will without approval of the executives.”
Oko’s impeachment communiqué was raised in the executive meeting held on Monday 1st September, 2025, where 14 out of 17 executive members signed the impeachment and suspension letter.
The executive members who appended their signatures on the letter include Comrade Kenneth Eze North – Vice Chairman, Comrade Blessing Chinyere Utazi – DPRO, Comrade Ezinne Onah – Assistant Programmer, Comrade Ogechukwu Asadu – Financial Secretary, Comrade Ejike Ekwueme – Programme Officer, and Comrade Jonathan Ogbu – Organising Secretary East.
Others are Comrade Chidera Okoye – Internal Auditor, Comrade Johnson Ossai – Secretary-General, Comrade Goodness Udeh – Treasurer, Comrade Joseph Onah – Social Secretary, Comrade Maryann Nwachukwu – Assistant Secretary, Comrade Obinna Opu – Deputy Chairman, Comrade Anita Isamade – Vice Chairman West, and Emmanuel Obi – Organising Secretary
As result of Oko’s ouster, a 5-man committee was set up to organise a bi-election within seven working days as the Deputy Chairman, Comrade Wealth Opu is now the acting Chairman of Council, while Comrade Johnson Ossai remains the Secretary-General of the Council.
