The newly inaugurated chairman of Umuchigbo Autonomous Community in Enugu East Local Government Area, Afam Ogbene, has praised Governor Peter Mbah’s administration for transforming Enugu State into a model for others in Nigeria.

Speaking at his inauguration at the Ncheke town hall, Ogbene, who also serves as the Labour Party (LP) chairman in the local government, lauded Mbah’s developmental strides, particularly in infrastructure and education.

“The governor of Enugu State is a true leader. His administration has ensured steady progress in roads, schools, and other sectors. If you don’t eat with your mouth, you march with your feet—meaning development is visible to all,” Ogbene stated.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to both his party and the state leadership, saying, “As the LP chairman, I remain committed to my party, but as a citizen, I recognize Governor Mbah as the chief security officer of the state and will support his vision for Enugu.”

Ogbene also outlined his plans for Umuchigbo, including renovating the town hall and implementing youth empowerment programs in the community’s four kindreds.

“I am committed to uplifting our youths through education and skills acquisition. No one should be left without opportunities,” he promised.

Elder statesman Chief Hycent Nnaji hailed Ogbene’s election as a turning point for Umuchigbo, likening it to the biblical liberation of the Israelites.

“For years, we were under leadership that did not prioritize our welfare. Today marks a new beginning. Afam Ogbene and his team will free us from governance that failed to benefit our people,” Nnaji said.

He urged community members to unite behind the new leadership while cautioning against any disruptions.

“We need leaders who will protect community properties and uphold fairness. Afam will ensure that no rightful landowner loses their property due to bad actors,” he added.

The event saw a large turnout, with community members and security personnel ensuring a peaceful atmosphere.
