Insecurity: Ebonyi bans all movement beyond 10Pm in Ohaozara LGA

The Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku yesterday directed the immediate ban of human and vehicular movement in and out of the local government area from 10pm till 6am daily to forstall further attacks and killing of police officers attached to stations in the area.

Briefing journalist shortly after the local government enlarged security council meeting at the council headquarters, Obiozara, Princess Iyioku said that the measure was put in place to ensure the security of lives and properties of the people of the area.

It would be recalled that, the local government area in recent time witnessed destruction, attacks of police station and the killing of police officers attached to the Station.

Princess Iyioku who is also the Ebonyi State Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON noted that after exhaustive deliberation, the Stakeholders unanimously agreed to place a ban on movement of human and vehicles in the council area.

According to her; “after exhaustive deliberation following the security challenges witnessed in the local government and the state in general, the Stakeholders decided to as part of additional measures to secure Ohaozara LGA and guarantee the protection of lives and property banned movement of human and vehicle to the council area”.

“Consequently, a night curfew was imposed and no person or vehicle is allowed into and out of Ohaozara Local Government Area from 10pm to 6am from today 11th May 2021 until further notice”.

The Council Chairman stated that, members of the local government vigilante group have been deployed to strategic locations to forstall further attacks on government facilities in the local government adding that the council will henceforth not allow hoodlums and unknown Gunmen to attack the council area again.

She noted that any vehicle that arrives the border area of the council between the ban period would either be forced to go back or the vehicle and it’s occupants will have to sleep at the border area till past 6am, the next day.

Mrs. Iyioku further stated that the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN were also directed to monitor church activities to ensure that all night programmes ends on time adding that other night activities are also expected to end before the stipulated time.

She stated that security is everyone’s business and urged the people to always protect themselves against any external aggression. “We therefore urge our people to always protect themselves against external aggression. Everyone must be vigilant and report every useful intelligence or suspicious movements to the security agencies for immediate actions”. Ends.
