The death has been announced of Chief Okeke J. Omagu, father of Enugu politician, lawyer and ex-Commissioner, Hon. Emeka Okeke. According to the statement released to the press by the former Commissioner, announcing the demise of the Patriarch, his father passed on, peacefully, aged 92, on Saturday, 24th of February, 2024, at his country home, Obuoffia Awkunanaw, a suburb of Enugu, Nkanu West Council Area of Enugu State.
The nonagenarian, late Chief Okeke, born on 30th January, 1932, was a notable community and religious leader. He had a distinguished career with the Nigerian Coal Corporation, and retired voluntarily.
After retirement, he remained active as he ventured into oil and gas business, downstream, becoming the Executive Director of Checkpoint Petroleum Ltd.
Chief Okeke is survived by his wife, children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements would be announced later.
