Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, has been recognised as the Grand Champion of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by the Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage (ESA-UHC). The award was presented yesterday in Enugu during the commemoration of this year’s World UHC Day.
Dr. Edith Okolo, Executive Secretary of ESA-UHC, cited the Mayor’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare to his people as the reason for the recognition. Specifically, his initiative to enroll 5,000 beneficiaries, mostly the elderly and women of childbearing age, into the UHC Programme.
This has earned him commendation from Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and recognition as the most Pro-health Mayor in South East Nigeria by WHO.
The award was received on behalf of the Executive Chairman by the Secretary of Enugu East Local Government, Barr Uche Mbaeke, who highlighted other achievements of the Mayor in the health sector.
These include the ongoing construction of three Type 1 PHC centers, about 85% complete, complementing the State Government’s efforts to transform the health sector.
The Mayor dedicated the award to God Almighty and the working Governor of Enugu State.
Barr Mbaeke reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and strategic partnership with ESA-UHC.
Hon. Engr. Beloved-Dan Obinna Anike’s visionary leadership and innovative approach to advancing universal health coverage and community wellbeing have earned him this prestigious award, making him a deserving recipient of the GRAND Champion of Universal Health Award.
